Actually Yale University is in our fine city of New Haven, clearly not the greatest city in the world - aka NY City holds that honor from your perspective. Why don't you apply there and see if you can get in

By the way, I prefer Boston myself.

Anyway, I am kind of a snob. Nothing against Hartford, its a fine city, but when your college's nearest major city is 30 minutes away and its HARTFORD thats just a little lame IMO.

I think u should be a little bit more open minded. I grew up wit girls from new york and everyday i'm on campus, I rock a yankee fitted to class everyday and i stunt with a little ny swag. But when I was at parties this october and the red sox was doin their thing, the mass kids were screamin 'bring em out to boston' u kno that song? well, i wasn't gonna cry because they deserved their moment.

I'ma humor u for a minute. what exactly are u lookin for in college? what would u be lookin for in a city like hartford to have? girls? bars?

I am not from Boston, I've only visited the city a half dozen or so times. But each visit was more pleasant than any of the dozen or so visits to NYC that I've had. And I've lived in Fairfield County for nearly 30 years.

Your not VISITORS of NYC...your locals. If you live in Fairfield County its like living in Long Island, Northern Jersey, Westchester, or Rockland. You essentially LIVE in New York. WE all commute to the same city and have fun in the same city and root for the same teams.

I can't believe I'm about to say this considering I've always been a NYC person, but I agree. I guess as we get older things like regionalism and blind favoritism no longer trump reality.

I guess I'm a traitor too considering my family is from Sheepshead Bay Brooklyn and I grew up in the shadow of NYC.

I too find Boston a really nice city these days and a pleasure to visit.

You are 17 so going to bars and clugs is out of question for you anyways. There is plenty happening on campus. You will make tons of friends and there are parties starting Thursday to Sunday. There is plenty of places to grab a bite to eat. I found that UConn provides a very nice atmosphere for learning and if you want to party then there is always a way. There is a bus from UConn to Boston, so you can have fun this was as well. If you are into sports, then you will be kept busy.

However, if you are thinking about going to univeristy then you should consider the value of the university based on its educational weight not the "what is around it" interests. You or your parents will pay much money for your education so I suggest that you arrange your priorites in the way that will benefit you in the long run. Party and entertainment are always available for those who seek them.

UConn is a great school and you should defenetly consider going there if you will get in.

It doesn't really matter what is "around" the college or university a person attends. The focus should be on the education alone.
Sure, I'm one that partied his butt off in college, and I look back and wish I had done much, much better and been more focused. A good, quality education in a passionate subject can make the difference in a mediocre paying $50k per year job and one that pays $75k (depending on the subject of course). Reality really hits home when out in the real world and interviewing.
Sure, bars and beers and frat parties are a blast in college, but my advice is to focus on the studies and minimize the worrying about "what's around" the college.

LOL, I'm reminded of a certain statement, "I can see Russia from my house".

But I disagree with you yankeesetc. I think since you are from NY you assume that those bordering NY must all revere NY---but that simply isn't true. I have no desire or need to venture into NYC, and neither do most people I know. I think it's wonderful that you are so loyal to your hometown, but you must understand that not everyone in Fairfield County shares your enthusiasm for NY. How long have you been in Connecticut? I am assuming it's a very short while, especially since you are only 17.

And I actually root for the Cowboys, that's just senseless.
