Newington101 is on a distinguished road
Default General opinion of Newington

Being a resident of the town itself, what are your opinions on Newington? I always see a lot of talk about West Hartford and sorrounding towns to Newington, however, not really about Newington itself. I'd appreciate to see some opinions from past and current residents, or out of town residents. Thanks!

Newington is a nice middle class community with a lot going for it. There are many nice neighborhoods and a lot of great stores and restaurants. The schools are very good with reasonable class sizes and test scores above the state average. Newington though just does not seem to have much that would make it stand out from other towns. It does not have an old historic district like Wethersfield or the diversity of West Hartford. It is also a bit removed from major highways which makes it a little less accessible than neighboring communities. Most people think of it as just being the Berlin Turnpike though it really is so much more. Anyway, those are just my thoughts on Newington. Jay

I lived there from my Freshman year at NHS through adulthood, and I think it was great. Lots of stuff within walking distance, and sidewalks everywhere to walk on. Very safe. Two large parks with swimming pools and ponds. Close proximity to CCSU and West Farms Mall. Most people I knew lived there and worked elsewhere, usually in Hartford/East Hartford or New Britain.
