I love the target brand, cheaper than anything else and better quality than other store brands.

C'mon people, stew leonards is the bomb! I love that store! And their goods are inexpensive too, even when it's not on sale.

Grade A is out of the way, as-is our Mrs Green's natural food market. Whole Foods was slated to come to Stamford at the Lord and Taylor site, but that fell apart in the spring of this year. Crossing my fingers that they'll build here soon!
Hey jj, didn't they open a WholeFoods in Stamford? I thought they did, unless Im thinkingof Westport or Darien. I know there's a few Trader Joe's down there - and if you haven't been there check it out. I go there all the time and it's great. Manchester is getting one soon. It's probably my favorite place to go - the selection is a bit small but their stuff is reasonably priced and REALLY good.

Anyone ever live along Long Island and know of the Best Yet Market? I heard that they were thinking of opening in the old A&P in Newington. I find that strange because they are in no other town in Connecticut, so why would they look at a property in Newington? Any insight?

For the first time in my life, I now live where Stop & Shop isn't really an option, convenience-wise. It's pretty much Big Y or ShopRite.

Agreed on ShopRite's prices - they're spectacular. But the crowds and the parking lot! And they don't sell my brand of feta. If I know I need to stock up on a lot of stuff or am getting ready to entertain, I go there, 'cause I know I'll save $$.

Otherwise, for my regular "just need a few things" shopping trips, Big Y is just so nice and spacious and clean, and it's always easy in/easy out. One pays for the convenience, though.

Oooh, and for Bethel/Redding/and now Newtown, Caraluzzi's Food Market totally rocks. Great produce, decent prices, and super-nice, polite staff.

I really miss being near Mrs. Green's Natural, though.

Growing up in the '50s and 60's, we used to go (from VA) visit the grandparents in New Haven a few times a year. I still remember going to Pegnataro's and First National Stores.

Just curious, are they long gone?

Never heard of Pegnataro's. Finast bit the dust about 15 years ago.

Trader Joe's in W. Hartford is my favorite but I can never get there more than 3-4 times a year. Locally, I like Target, Aldi's and Super Stop and Shop for things I can't find in other places.
