I've recently had the same problem with a couple grocery stores. I try to remember to check everything carefully first now. I agree, YUCK!

I like either Price Chopper or Shop Rite.

I been to Caraluzzi's a couple of times, seems nice. Don't have enough of an opinion, and I haven't needed to buy groceries in Fairfield County for a while.

Stew Leonards was pretty good, minus the smaller selection on general grocery and the robotic farm animals singing. The snack bar was great, meat and dairy was great. Prices were good.

Stop and Shop looks nice, but the prices are higher than your Shop Rites and Price Choppers.

Big Y is pricey and not all that close to me (Southbridge or Danielson). But PC and S&S are closer. There's a Shaws in Webster, but that place is expensive and out of the way compared to the PC.

I hate Stop n Shop but it's so close to me that we will go there for most groceries. I will not buy fruit/veggies/meats or milk there however. Also, though I live in Ridgefield, I usually drive to Danbury (Mill Plain rd) because the prices are significantly lower.

My fav is Caraluzzi's mostly because I like their selection, their fruits and veggies and we love their cold cuts for sandwiches. I will not buy cold cuts anywhere else as we prefer fresh in store cooked.

I also love Trader Joes but it's too limited for me to do my full shopping so its usually just to get snacks and frozen foods.

I like the Big Y but the nearest one is 20 mins from me. I found that if you shop the sales, you'll do quite well there. Wish it was closer!
