The sun was so strong yesterday because there wasn’t any humidity and not a cloud in the sky. Temps quickly surged into the 80 F range by early afternoon. I saw a lot of burned people at the gas station in Madison (State Beach is down the road). We saw a paramedic talking to some guy who looked pretty bad.

I know most folks who live on the East Coast are used to hot temps, but the sun’s strength can be deceiving. This time of year, the sun is as strong as it would be in early August. Also, I think because they hype up winter here so much, folks tend to forget how far south the region really is. Once you get below Massachusetts on the East Coast your below 42 latitude…the same latitude as places in the northern Mediterranean Sea (Naples, Italy or Barcelona, Spain). When the sky is clear the sun can be really strong at this latitude. Play it safe with sunscreen.

I also got a little sunburned yesterday from a soccer game, as well as working in the yard. And that was using sunscreen. I think I need some new/stronger sun screen. I have heard that it loses strength after a year, I'm not sure if that's true or not.

Third: Tear off the deck all day on the South facing side of the house, I got a little brick red. Course now it's just tan thanks to the DNA.
