I associate hot weather with nastiness and cold weather with freshness. I prefer cold weather to hot weather.
Florida is such a fake and boring state. Miles upon miles of cookie cutter sprawl, retirement communities, and tourist traps.
I doubt the people who lost their homes to hurricanes would rather have that than cold weather.

In my 9 years in CT, I can't say a winter there was ever that bad. I've seen the kind of snow that falls in Wisconsin and Minnesota. CT winter is mild in my book.
My recollection of CT summers are just as humid as the Carolinas, but not as prolonged. Humid summers are worse than hot dry summers like in CA.
I would take snow and an occasional blizzard over hurricanes any day of the year. A blizzard does not increase my homeowner's insurance in CT and does not demolish and obliterate my household. Invest in a generator if you must for the occasional power outages. Stockpile on firewood and your fireplace would provide plenty of heat. You won't know what you're missing until you live south where mostly new homes have gas fireplaces. It's just not the same.

When summer air arrives from the south, that's true. The humidity here can be very oppressive when that happens.
Winters here are far more mild than places further inland. Moreover, the amount of snow that falls in the state varies a lot - the least snow in the southeast corner, and the most in the northwest corner.
My own take is: each winter is harder on me as I age. More joint pain, etc. So I guess I'd rather be in Key Largo or San Diego in the winter. In the summer I want to escape the humidity, and I'd rather be somewhere in the Rocky Mountains.
That leaves a small and shrinking part of the year where my preference is Connecticut. Probably September and October.

If you hate living here, you hate living here, and nobody can change your mind. I love CT. To me we have everything here, weatherwise included. If we didn't have winter we would not appreciate the spring. Also it truly isn't as bad as it used to be. We get storms but they're usually wimpy and the ice and snow melt pretty soon afterward.

I didn't like CT that much, till I moved away.
I didn't move away because of the weather, but cost of living.
Anyway, moved down to Bama, and although we don't have much snow, we do get pretty chilly. It was 18º a few weeks back.
I do miss the snow - a little bit. I miss the great pizza on every corner. I have to drive at least 30 minutes to get great pizza. I miss being able to get to NYC easily. I miss having good rock bands coming to the region. Well maybe some will come to Nashville.
I also miss the great bike riding areas - roads here are shoulderlesss for the most part.
Anyway, it is what you make of it.
Oh, last thing, cost of living in bama is great. Loving our new house - with the .5 acre yard, and over 2,000 sq feet for under $200K

We just moved from southwest Florida back to Connecticut... while the weather down there has this beat by a long shot, the economy is AWFUL. There are no jobs to be found, and the housing market is dismal. The good news is that right now you can get a nice 3/2/2 house in certain nice communities for under $100,000.
I agree with you that the winter weather here is terrible, but remember that the hot and sultry summer days in Florida are terrible too. Hurricanes don't hit too often in one particular area, but they are still a concern. More scary to me are the tornadoes, which cropped up several times each summer during the daily rains.
I'd be really happy right now sipping lemonade at the park with all of my mommy friends, watching the kids play at the park, and then coming back to CT in the summers and enjoying the mild weather here. Alas, that's not possible for our family right now, but maybe someday!
In the meantime, make the best of it. You can go sledding in the snow, and snowy weekend days are great for catching up on your sleep. I know from growing up here that the first semi-warm days of late winter/spring are sooo wonderful after the long winter. Crocuses and tulips are awesome. And really, it just does not feel like Christmas when you see people putting lights on their palm trees while wearing shorts in December, kwim?
Give it two months and it will get better here!

Everybody understands we only have about 6 weeks of "bad" weather left and then it starts to warm up...right? Think of this as July 9th and how fast Sept 1st comes. Feel better now? Good.
This isn't Fairbanks.
As a side note, I havn't even had a chance to head up North with the sled yet...Winter for me is going TOO fast! LOL
