Six weeks from now is the end of February. March is no prize. The first half of April is dicey. It's going to be 12 weeks before weather I consider acceptable is likely to occur.

In any case it is far too long until I can get out on the motorcycle again.

I'm currently living in Dubai and I watch the weather channel daily to see the "real weather" made of seasons in the rest of the world.
Snow and ice may not be pleasant, but better than mosquito bites on Christmas Eve!!
I'm moving to Miami next summer but I'm planning to move again after few months to CT because I need to see different seasons, colors,to breathe cool air,to play with the snow and to drink hot chocolate in front of a fireplace!!

It's easier to stay warm then to be cool. I know people in Florida who can't stand living there. There's only so much you can take off to be cool.

As far as the snow...all you have to do is move 1 hr south by car. They rarely get anything down there.

But stop complaining...IT'S ONLY 3 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR! And it's not even the entire 3 months... It's like maybe 5 days out of the 3 months you might be stuck at home.

5 DAYS OUT OF 365!!!! Come on.

You need a fireplace or a hobby. lol

For my top 10 reasons for leaving CT, bad weather is around the bottom of the list. High taxes is #1. I have lived in several other states. For having the highest taxes in the country, I would expect the highest level of government service. Instead, the service is poor at best. High real estate prices, traffic congestion, crowded cities, corruption, greed, unfriendly people are all high on my list of reasons for leaving.

The real problem for me in NE is the short days in Winter. By the time I get home from work its dark and cold, which only allows for weekend outdoor activities. When I lived in FL I used to run outdoors everyday after work, all year round; I do miss that.

I guess unless it's 65 you are not happy with the weather then?

"Winter" breaks at the end of Feb. That's my point.

By the first week of March average temps are about 45. Which means you'll have some days in the 50's and days in the 30's. More than comfortable for me. Then again, above 75* and I'm sweating and miserable.

I'm out riding on two wheels in anything above 50*.

Interesting. As someone who has live in serveral other states, and spent a lot of time around the nation (And overseas visiting family) I actually moved back to get away from many of the things you think are here. I find the cities very managable, traffic to be very light by national standards, real estate prices (Around Hartford) to be middle of the road by national standards, and missed the honest and real relationships with folks over plastic smiles and fake friendliness.

I would disagree about poor services as well...but that can be debated. I know the DPW in Manchester is outstanding and we do pour a ton of money into our schools. (The debate of weather money makes a school better is not the point)

Yes, I do think taxes are high.

I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

The traffic is fairly light by big city standard until you get to fairfield county. Its no picnic on the r15 / 95 corridor from Bridgeport to NYC. If you compare to some extreme like L.A, Atlanta, etc then its light but that is just relative terms. To get from Westchester airport to Meriden on Rt 15 during the day it took me 3.5hours one way and around 3 the other way.

The education system in much of Connecticut is broken and I know this because I know around 15 teachers from various cities who all complain of lack of funding, pushing kids along, teacher cuts, overcrowded schools, etc. The wealthy cities may not have these problems but they also comprise of the lower percentage of overall students.

Yeah taxes are def high, no debating that, we have got the short end of the stick. Being one of the richest states, smallest states in terms of size, also with the highest taxes I can never figure out why we are always out of money. We have a lot of rural towns that don't have the high infrastructure costs and our large cities aren't so large that their infrastructure is out of control.

Weather. It's hard to debate weather because everyone likes something different. My aunt from Puerto Rico came here when it was 70 in the summer and she was freezing cold because she is used to it being 80+ degrees all year round. She actually had a blanket on!

I personally lived in GA for 4 years and it was always hot and humid in the Summer which didn't appeal to me at all however I miss the somewhat mild winters. To me it is too cold from November to late March, when it starts to warm up a bit. I miss the outdoor activities such as walks, basketball, tennis, hiking, swimming, and kayaking which I would love to do year round. Winter activies like skiing, snowboarding, ice skating just don't appeal me to but I understand that many people love the snow, my sister included. She is a ski bum who just moved to Oregon because our winters here in the Northeast are "weak". It's all relative. I'd be happy to be sipping margaritas on the beach right now while she would love to be ice climbing a gorge on some mountain in the West.

What did you do? Walk? You could take Rt 1., stop at every traffic light and make it in an hour and a half...
