oh boy...and this hasn't even been a bad winter! I'll take CT any day over hot, steamy FL in the summers. We're all different though. Just a few more months of cold weather :-)

Being stuck in the house for days? LMFAO! How about those unfortunate individuals in Massachusetts and New Hampshire who didn't have power for a week last month due to an ice storm?
A fire alarm went off today at work, of all days. While outside for 40 minutes, I noticed that the snow is already melting here in Shelton. This morning in Cheshire, we picked up maybe an inch of ice/snow/ice. Thankfully, the middle layer of snow lessened the impact of the ice.
The days are already getting longer. Focus on 02/02/2009 - the midpoint of the season!
As for Florida, the funeral state, no thanks!

Why are you stuck in the house for days? By tomorrow this will be pretty much cleaned up or gone. I would much rather deal with this than the unbearable heat and humidity of Florida, but that is just me. Jay

How is Florida much better? The crime rates are horrible in some places and not to mention how expensive it is.

This weather has been a walk in the park! I'm pleasantly surprised with CT's weather--at least in Stamford. This is my 3rd winter in Stamford and 8th in the NYC area. Coming from the southeast, (TN), I was expecting 3 ft snowfalls and 10 degree weather. Not so at all! I don't mind highs in the upper 30s/low 40s. It actually is pretty nice weather. Lows at night in the 20s are fine too.
Florida has great winter weather, but the summers are miserable. Plus, Florida is not as glamorous as many people think. It is a pit in many spots--with poverty rampant. Ugh.

I don't like Connecticut's winters, and I've been here nearly 30 years. The cold temps start too soon and end too late in the seasons. But I wouldn't like Florida's winters, either. I'd like something in between, maybe one of the Carolinas, or Virginia. But I would still miss much of Connecticut's culture, and New England's feel in general, so then I'd be complaining if I lived there, too.
Ideally I would have a summer house here in Connecticut and a winter house somewhat further down the coast. I just haven't found the perfect location that would make me happy year-round.

Stuck in the house for days? LOL
Stop whining, put on a friggin sweater and go outside and play. I've been outside with the Nitromethane powered 4WD RC monster truck blowing donuts and having a ball. (Yea I'm still a big kid at heart sometimes. )
You want "stuck inside", move to FL. My 5 years in Orlando proved to me that doing anything from June to October is just about impossible unless you can bear 90+*, scorching sun radiation and 90%+ humidity. I used to have to mow the lawn in two sessions with a 45 minute cool down in between. Yuck!
I never felt liks such a shut in, in all my life.

I'll take a day at home with the kids due to no school any day over a hurricane. Last fall we were living in San Diego during the wildfires and spent a week in a hotel room waiting to see if our house was still there or not (our home survived but several people at the hotel we were at lost their homes). I actually think that was easier than a hurricane (you can't drive 10 miles away and escape a hurricane). A little snow and ice is nothing to complain about.
