Default Bloomfield and Windsor......

I noticed that both are known for having a strong Black middle class population. Are there other towns or communities like these two in Connecticut? What kind of reputation do they have in the Hartford area? How are the schools in both communities?

Windsor and Bloomfield are both very nice suburban communities with many nice neighborhoods. There is a wide range of housing options and a lot of nice shops and restaurants in both towns.

The schools in both communities have reasonable class sizes (around 20 students per class), however both performing below state averages on the Connecticut Mastery and Connecticut Academic Performance tests. Windsor performs just below the average while Bloomfield unfortunately performs significantly below. The links below will give you more information. I hope htis helps. Jay

Windsor and Bloomfield are both decent towns, both with sizeable, middle-class black populations. Windsor is actually one of a handful of towns nationwide where household incomes for blacks is higher than for whites. Schools here are OK, but not oustanding. The neighborhoods near the town center area are especially nice, with many old, historic, well-kept houses here.

Bloomfield overall is nice but the schools right now are some of the lowest performing in the state. Which is a shame because it's not a bad town but when news facilitates about under-performing schools it hurts property values. Still, the town is working hard to change that. The areas closer to the Avon and Simsbury border are especially nice, very rural with more open space.

Most of Hartford's inner suburbs, those towns that share a border with the capital city - West Hartford, Newington, Wethersfield - have small but notable black populations. And the schools here are better than the first two aformentioned towns.

Windsor is nice, i would consider living their but if your looking for a better school in Windsor, the Poquonock section has the best elementary school.

Bloomfield, i would NOT live in. Their are a few nice areas but for the most part i notice it being fairly worn down and the schools are very poor. The taxes are high as well.
My friend just moved out of bloomfield and headed toward granby since her children are coming up on school age.

Just my personal opinion.

As far as i know their are not towns with as high of a population of african americans as those two anywhere else in CT but im not too knowledgeable with areas near the shoreline.
