Thinking About Moving to Westbrook, CT
Hi Folks
I've been in CT all my life. Manchester, Storrs, Rockville, Willington, and now Andover. Westbrook could be my next destination. I've been reading a number of threads in this forum trying to find information about Westbrook (the fact that they have a volunteer fire department is great). Here's the question... I work in Hartford. I hope to retire in another 10 years so I'd rather not change employer if I can help it. How's the commute to Hartford from Westbrook? With some luck, I may be able to telecommute 2 or 3 days a week but I know that management loves to see the back of your head, whether you're working or sleeping.
Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

I wouldn't want to commute it, but then again i've never commuted more then 25 minutes.
It would likely take you about an hour for that commute give or take depending on the rush hour traffic that day.
It's up to you. But if you're up for an hour commute then go for it.

Westbrook is over 40 miles from Hartford and it would take about an hour each way depending on traffic, time of day and weather. While it is not a commute I would want to do, I do know people that do it or something similar. If you do decide to commute, you might want join a car pool. I know several people from the shore that commute to the Hartford area this way and it helps ease the ride. Check out Rideworks or Easy Street for information. Jay

That is a long drive. You'd probably have to go up route 9 then connect with 91 every day, which I know I wouldn't want to do. I'd say it's more than an hour. We go to Fish Tale down there on the shore every couple months and from Meriden its a drive let alone Hartford during rush hour. Route 9 as you know isn't heavy on traffic, especially once you get past Middletown but its just long to me.

Thank you, KH02, JayCT, and njohnson for the info. I had a feeling it would be a long ride based on reading the maps (remember maps?). Hopefully, the bosses will let me work from home often, if I make the move. It sure looks like a very nice area.
