With all due respect, I have a very very hard time believing you can't find "real" shopping closer then 2.5 hours away. Come on.
Ever venture up to the Manchester area? There isn't much that's not here between the Mall, Evergreen Walk and dozens of shopping centers surrounding both.
Clinton Crossing, Tanger in Westbrook?
Clinton Crossing Premium Outlets
Tanger Outlets Centers
While I don't know what's there in detail, isn't the Danbury Fair area chock full as well?

I only see Chik-fil-A when I go south, like to Florida or Texas. However, McDonalds has a Southern Style Chicken Sandwich that is a close approximation.

Am also bummed about the disappearance of places like pizza hut, fossil clothing.................

^^^White Castle's way better.

^^^The Golden Arches tries to copy Chik-fil-a's sandwich but it's not even close. McDonald's chicken sandwich isn't even real chicken.

Hmm..that's odd. Try these places:
Woodbury Outlets in NY
Clinton Crossing
Tanger in Westbrook
Danbury Fair Mall
Stamford Town Center
West Farms Mall
Trumbull Mall
Milford Mall
Westchester Mall
The Galleria
Meriden Mall
Brass Mill Center
Buckland Hills Mall
Evergreen Walk
There are also a ton of great malls in New Jersey....
I could go on...but I don't know what real shopping means to you. If you tell me I can point you in the right direction.

Brass Mill is a joke. Danbury is a little nicer. Where I go there is no outlet traps which is what outlets truly are. PA has the Mall on one side of the interstate and all the other stores not Mall related on the other side with great restaurants and hotels.

So, have you been to the Buckland area of Manchester?
Big mall (over a million square feet), 3 hotels, piles of restaurants, Evergreen Walk (1.2 million square foot, multi acre outdoor mall type thing) and more friggin surrounding retail then I have space to type including the 2 million plus square foot JC Penny dist center/Catalog Outlet.
Take a look at this Google Map:
Google Maps
Go to satellite view. Find RT30/Demming street and Hale road. Follow hale road as it turns into Buckland Hills Drive alllll the way to Buckland Street, cross Buckland Street and follow it across to Pleasant Valley Road. Go back to Buckland Street go North and South. See all those rooftops? See their size compared to the mall?
That's ALL retail and all easy to hop from place to place.
You want it, it's here. I can almost promise you.
When I do that, and then do the same for Wilkes Barre area you speak of, I kinda scratch my head as it measures out much smaller and I count a lot less "retail".
Google Maps
Just something to consider since you live here and it's much closer.

Well, Chick-fil-A responded this time.
OH well, Chick-fil-A responded this time.
"There are currently no plans to develop a Chick-fil-A Restaurant in Connecticut. Each year, we receive literally hundreds of requests from customers regarding possible locations at or near which they would like to see a Chick-fil-A Restaurant. Although we appreciate our customers' input, our Chick-fil-A Restaurant new opening locations are determined internally through our own market research after thoughtful analysis."
I don't understand why they are in MA, NJ, NY....but not CT!!!!
