Where to Move To?
Okay, so I've had it with Fairfield, CT, prices on everything - taxes, utilities, etc.
So I'm tempted to pack it all in and move SOUTh, or somewhere where it is warm now, rather than 20 degrees or so.
But where to go??? I have a 9.5 year old son with special needs, so I need a town with a great school system that will accommodate him with extra resource time, etc.
Suggestions?

Hi Patty,
Well, my family and I are leaving northern NJ (very much like Fairfield Cty) and heading to southeastern CT. The prices are so much more reasonable from what we can tell, and the lifestyle is so much more laid back. Have you considered staying in state but going east more? We did not even consider Fairfield cty when looking to relocate because it would be a lateral move on our part, and too pocket draining.

X2 on the above. You are going to be hard pressed to find another area like New England in the rest of the country. Just my experience after a lot of traveling and two interstate moves.

I agree. I am from New England originally, moved across the country, then down south, and now I am back. A lot of people see the south as the promised land with cheaper housing and warmer weather but are in for a rude awakening once they get there. Not that I am trying to persuade you to stay here as many people move south and love it. If you do make such a decision just research it very carefully, especially the school systems.

South as in Florida? I strongly urge against it because all those things you listed we have here pretty bad (except the cold).
What are some more of the things you're looking for as opposed to what you're not looking for? That might help people offer better suggestions.
