I need to find a nice safe apartment in hartford. Currently live in Clemens place and hate it... I do not feel safe to go in and out on my own after a certain time. I'm looking for maybe in west hartford area and downtown hartford. I'm willing to pay at least $1200-1250 for diceint living area. I saw 55 on the park on line... does anyone know anything about the place? Also the Design Center? 711 Farmington Ave? 960 Main? and any other places that anyone can recommend PLEASE!!!!

If you do not feel safe at Clemen's Place, then I doubt you will feel much safer anywhere else in Hartford. Clemens Place is in the West End and is a fairly safe area. 55 on the Park is very nice, as is 960 Main. They are right downtown with 55 overlooking Bushnell Park. Downtown is also fairly safe but it is in the core of downtown and if you are nervous in urban areas then these may not be right for you. Design Center is on Park Street which is not any better than Clemens Place as far as safety is concerned. 711 Farmington is in West Hartford and the area is very safe. You might also want to check craigslist.com for rentals. Godd luck, Jay

Actually, I know a fair number of people who have left Clemens Place for someplace closer to the West Hartford border, while still remaining within the West End. Clemens Place isn't bad, but it's at the eastern edge of the West End, and by its location and nature tends to attract a certain amount of theft and such. An apartment on, say, North Beacon Street above Farmington would be a very different proposition, and I think you could get a nice place for $1200.

Actually Jay, the Design Center is pretty much a dead neighborhood since there's no other apartment building near them. it's near the Train tracks and although the nearby neighborhoods aren't the best, they rarely walk through the Design Center.

Good point but you must go through the nearby neighborhoods to get to it and if you want to walk around at night, it is not the best place to be doing that. JMHO, Jay
