Bridgeport and Hartford are fine to live in

Bridgeport along Black Rock Tpke is good

Hartford as long as your in a Giant Luxury community (which is rather affordable) or your not in the North End

Hartford rep has made it very affordable for the new luxury apartments that have gone up - My friend paid 750 for a 2 bed 2 bath Apartment - The building was gated had a doorman - Health club - Pool - Dishwasher - Washer Dryer - free internet

The basic rule in Hartford is stay west of the Park River (both North and South branches), which forms a shallow V on the western edge of Hartford.

Basically, this means the safe areas are the University of Hartford and Bloomfield Avenue, the West End, Elizabeth Park, and West Parkville, which is the area west of the Wood'N'Tap pub mentioned above.

The north end is probably less safe then the south end, but neither are recommended places. Downtown is reasonably safe, and condos are being built there, so it may improve more in the coming years.

Leaving your address on a message board might not be a good idea.

First and foremost, Whaler makes a good point, the stats really are somewhat pointless. I would look for a house in the Hartford area personally, just because it seems that homes in southern CT are generally more expensive for equal or less actual property. Try Wethersfield, sort of a suburb of Hartford. There are a couple on the market for less than 350k/2000ft+, but they're real close to .25 acres. Perhaps Newington or Windsor would be good as well. I would check them out.\

I'm relocating to CT and tried to avoid looking in Bridgeport because everyone I spoke to said how bad it was. However, given my price range, Bridgeport kept coming up in my housing searches. My realtor told me that if she takes any of her clients to Bridgeport, it's only to two areas: Black Rock (on the Bridgeport/Fairfield border) and North End (near Trumbull). I've seen both areas and they're both very nice. Call the Bridgeport police and get crime statistics on certain areas. I did. The area in North End where I eventually settled on is one of the safest areas in Bridgeport. To feel really comfortable, I spent an entire weekend driving around the area, just to be sure. Betweeen the stats and my own observation/feelings, I am very comfortable with the area. FYI - The officer I spoke to said "Hollow" is one of the worst areas in Bridgeport.

Sorry, I can't speak on Hartford.

Thanks alot for the help!
