Does anybody here work for the gov. in Stamford CT? I'm looking at the pros and cons of taking a position with the city and moving my family to CT.

I'm born and raised in the Bronx. The area we live in used to be a good Italian area but things have changed for the worse. I want a safer place for my kids, that is why my wife and I have been checking out CT. My Sister moved to West Haven three years ago and she really loves it up there.

Thanks for the help.

Billy

Well, I don't work for the city government, but it would be a nice cushy job to have I bet! Great benefits and great time off, as compared to the public sector.

Stamford is an excellent quality of life, with 44 mins by train to NYC. It's expensive in terms of housing though, as you may know. It all depends on how much you'll earn with the city job. If you are the only one working and have 2 kids, for example, you'd need to earn at LEAST about $100-110k to live in Stamford. And then you'd be on a pretty tight budget.

You are from the Bronx and worrying about your kids being safe? I'd think any part of CT is safer than any part of the Bronx. I lived in Norwalk, CT for most of my life and we were always save. The death rate in Norwalk is usually under 5 people per year and the last death I know of before leaving was a cop who killed himself. The people in CT are more into working and going to church than they are into crime. When I left CT more kinds in Weston, and Westport were getting in trouble than in my old neighborhood.

Everytime I see something about someone wanting to be safe, I always think they are worried about being in an area where there are a lot of blacks. You will find the blacks don't get in as much trouble as the hispanic and white kids in Norwalk.

No. There are parts of the Bronx that are safer than parts of Hartford and Bridgeport. Don't paint with such a broad stroke...
