Default Branford/shoreline rentals, short-term

We plan on selling our house in Mass. this spring and moving to Guilford. The plan is to move down there and rent short-term while we take our time finding the right house. We're looking for something that gives us the option of short term lease, or month-to-month, close enough to Guilford to make house hunting easy and for my daughter to get to preschool there 3 times a week. It's temporary, so we're thinking cheap 2 bedroom, but of course safe and tolerable. (Under $1400, less would be great)
I've looked at Branford Hills and Montoya (in Branford) on line. There have been a few negative comments about Montoya, mainly the lack of insulation/freezing in the winter. (We hope to be out by the winter, but who knows.) Does anyone have any experience with these complexes? Are there other options I may have missed? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

Hi...I joined this forum today just to reply to you! (Although I had been meaning to...)

Please do NOT even look at Montoya. My husband and I looked at them and were disappointed--very small, very run down. The area isn't so great, IMO. We chose not to sign a lease, and good thing.

Late last year, the complex hit the local news. Two separate issues of tenants' complaints not being resolved.

I have seen the insides and driven around in both places... Branford Hills is much nicer than Montoya. I agree with Niffy on avoiding Montoya.
