Default New Hartford ???

New Hartford 3rd graders are consistently in the top 10 for Reading & Math in the state of CT. Up there with Simsbury and close behind the richest towns in the country - Greenwich, Norwalk, & Stamford CT. My kids have received a lot of special attention & the oldest has been able to skip ahead 1 year in Math during elementary school. The class sizes are small and the teachers are carefully chosen and well managed with lots of PTA participation. The high school is shared with neighboring towns, but it has been expanded and renovated and its reputation is growing. The heavy $ lifting is done there.
New Hartford has outstanding recreational opportunities, with town beaches on 2 different lakes, one of the best fly-fishing rivers in the country, (including canoeing, WW Kayaking, & tubing) a manicured ski area with youth programs, a well run recreation department, golf course, tennis courts, several ball fields, etc. The Boy Scout troop has a very high conversion rate to Eagle Scouts and there are world class Boy Scout and Girl Scout summer camps here as well as private day camps.
Over half the town is protected reservoir watershed or green space, so it will stay green for decades if not forever. Hiking and biking trails abound.
There is some hi-tech manufacturing, but the commercial tax base is thin and the big box stores are outside the borders. The big mall is Westfarms Mall, (yields more $ per SF than any other mall in the country) located in West Hartford, 25 minutes away. Most multi-stop shopping trips take you to Canton, Avon, or Torrington.
New Hartford is a fantastic town if you are family-oriented, if you are self-employed or a telecommuter, if you enjoy the outdoors, and if shopping is not a big priority.

Agree with all the above.
