New Hartford???
Thinking about moving to New Hartford...What do you think?
Are the schools ok? Commuting distance to Hartford?
Thumbs up or thumbs down?
Thanks!

I have a good friend who lives there and him and his family are pleased with NH. I don't personally know about the schools, but I know they moved there looking for a good school system and plan on staying there for the long haul.
I would say it is probably 1/2 hour max from downtown Hartford, but that is without traffic. Rt. 44 is a well travelled road during the morning and evening rush. Maybe someone else can give you an idea of what the commute would be during the rush, as I have only travelled it off-peak.

The commute from NH to Hartford is a bit of a bear. I have been on assignment in Canton right on the Avon line on RT44 for the past 4 months and from there it takes me about 30 minutes to get into Hartford so I can grab I84 to Manchester.
The problems is RT44 is a blvd with lights. If you get past the lights, it can take 20 minutes. If you hit all the lights, it will take you 45 minutes.
New Hartford is a nice town though...I almost moved there myself.
Good luck!

Took about a 1/2 hour semi-back roading into Hartford from Simsbury. Simsbury mountain and Avon mountain when it snows. Stay home. JViello is right. Beautiful area.

The commute is awful! But the town is very pretty. If you are looking for excellant schools, not there. But they are good and as the town grows the schools will get better. You can get a lot more for the money there than in the valley (trust me I live in Simsbury), and still be not too far to all the new shopping along rte 44.
It also is important to understand where in Hartford you have to get to.
If you like to ski, Ski Sundown is in New Hartford ~ all the kids around here learn to ski there and since they have night skiing, it can be a fun place to go to.

Thanks for the info!
I never hear anyone mention New Hartford in terms of good places to move to. I hope the property values are pretty stable...

I live in Canton, the next town over. NH really is beautiful, but the school system is a satellite that sends the kids to Winsted. (denser populated city). New Hartford and Barkhamsted kids go to Winsted schools.

New Hartford School
Children from New Hartford do not attend Winsted schools. New Hartford has a K-6 school system (2 elementary schools for k-2, and a single facility for 3-6). After sixth grade they enter Northwestern Regional 7 Middle School and High School, a system that serves students from New Hartford, Barkhamsted, Colebrook and Norfolk. The school's campus is located in Winsted, perhaps contributing to Glimmer380's confusion.
I am very pleased with Regional - among the classes my childern have taken are conversational chinese, italian, honors and AP classes. I believe that you have to make the best of the opportunities presented, and Regional gives my kids excellent opportunities for learning and growth.

Moving to New Hartoford
Hi....i've pretty much lived in new hartford all my life...i moved here when i was two i'm sixteen now. But i absolutely love it...if you are brining any kids though and coming from a city it might be a bit of a change because there isn't a lot to do in the town but there are developing towns around us that are within about 15 minutes with great things to do. The value of property in new hartford has increased greatly since i've moved here we bought a 2 acre lot and built a house for just about $200,000 and it has more than tripled. But the scenary is gorgeous and like people said if you hit all the stop lights on the way to hartford you could make it in about 20minutes but otherwise its about a 35minute drive. I saw a lot of people were giving our schools good replys but recentally all three elementary schools have rennovated and improved the schools and all three schools anywhere in new hartford are less than 15minutes away. In addition, the high school has done a lot of rennovation within the past 5 to 6 years and has become very safe...we have cameras everywhere and have just recently taken foreign exchange students from France...and have a new teacher from china and italian, french, and spanish teachers. Also, we have come up with a new grading system lately to improve parent---teacher communication with an online program which also helps students check there grades to keep them updated. Last, we have a very good althetic system and have been improving over the years. Anywhere in New Hartford you can make it to the school within 20minutes. hope this helped....we just got new shopping centers in the next town over...its helped a lot!!!
bye
