My husband is being transferred from the Chicago area to CT. We are looking to move to Milford, Derby or Ansonia. I have 2 young children and would like info on safest areas with good schools. We are also not familiar with the area and would appreciate any help on "affordable" areas to look for housing. Thanks!

I've lived in CT my entire life, but never in those towns...BUT I would pick Milford over the other two. Milford has the better schools out of the three. You might pay more for housing, but IMO, it's worth it.

Be a little more specific with your needs [# of bedrooms, style of house, overall square footage, restrictions (no stairs, etc.)].

By the way, there won't be too much of a difference between Ansonia and Derby in price.

I have to agree that Milford is a better choice IMHO. Derby and Ansonia would be more affordable though Milford has a wide range of housing choices. A lot depends on what you are looking for. Jay

I live in Derby and I think the Bradley Grammer school is well run and the teachers are great with the children. I originate from Milford where the schools are overcrowded and the town taxes you to death. Milford is not the best choice. There is nothing wrong with Ansonia or Derby schools and both these towns are affordable and very pleasant to live in.
Just my two cents coming from the Valley.

I would never recommend Ansonia or Derby to anyone looking for good schools. Unless Johnny was a star football player and didn't plan on going to college for anything important, then Ansonia.

As for Derby - I've heard enough horror stories from there to last a lifetime. East Derby is alright, if you had no kids of school age. But if I had kids, I wouldn't send them to Derby schools unless I had no other choice.

I agree with this post 110%! Except I would rate Derby over Ansonia.

Go with Milford.

I probably agree. I only said that bit because Ansonia's football team generally is better than Derby's. Or at least has been for a bunch of years now.

That's about all Ansonia has going for it: high school football.

I'm sorry, where was it you said that you own property and work to pay the bills for it?
