Bridgeport A&P
This may not be the right place to ask this, however, if anyone lives in the Bridgeport area, do you know if A&P Super Foodmart on Park Avenue is closing? I've heard rumors. Is this true? By reading things on the internet, I've heard it's a dying store and is overrun by people begging for money, theft of supermarket property and cars for sale in the parking lot.

That rumor has been around for years. That said, A&P is not a very strong supermarket chain and it would not really surprise me. They have let their presence in Connecticut drop significantly over the years to where they onoly have a few stores in the state. Having so few stores makes it more expensive to serve them giving other stores the price advantage. It is strange since A&P was once the dominent player in CT. Jay

The media has reported that this store will be rebranded as a Food Basics store by A&P management. A&P hasn't confirmed/denied the story. It would be cool if they did that, and then leased the former Shaw's on Reservoir Ave. in BPT and branded that as an A&P. Either way, it's a certainty that they're not intending to invest any money in that Park Ave. store. A dump it shall remain.

I can't believe they are finally closing it.
I don't think A&P will ever add any new locations in Connecticut. They are very narrow-minded. They can barely keep some of their stores here in line as it is. The concept of Food Basics coming to Connecticut is very nice. They could locate them in towns where an A&P wouldn't work as well. A&P is mostly left in higher income towns as they are a bit more expensive. However, I still like them, but the management is lacking.
