Default Help, pls... Move to CT (New Fairfield?)

Sorry if this post is redundant... can't really search for relevant threads now because I'm at work. Anyway, I want to consider relocating to somewhere in CT, close to NYC. Several conditions:

1. I work in Downtown NYC, so Metro will be great.
2. Looking for great pre-K, elementary schools for my 4 & 1 yr olds to attend eventually.
3. Safety: no urban elements.
4. A great town life will be a plus (we're all book junkies, so a great bookstore or a literary scene will be sweet.)
5. This may put a huge limitation on things: looking for something between $300K-$400K. 3 br.

I was thinking about New Fairfield, b/c of some craigslist posts... comments? Anywhere else I should look at?

For this long weekend, I plan to take my family to see CT, and your recommendations will be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!

From the center of New Fairfield, it is only about 10-15 minutes to the train station. 75-80 minutes from there to Grand Central. The taxes are affordable compared to Westchester County. All of the public schools are located on the same street. There are parts of town that 'feel like Vermont' but only a few minutes from the town.

Good luck with your move!
Jon

New Fairfield is beautiful with great schools, great place to raise a family. Others may have more info but I suspect finding a home under 400k there will be difficult??

I live in New Fairfield. I'm originally from NY and happy with my decision to move to CT. I feel very safe and secure in NF. There isn't a bookstore only a public library. I don't commute via Metro North so I can't answer that question. I know there has been some talk about bus service to the Southeast train station beginning in April.

I can't speak about the school since my children are not in the system. However I know that my neighbors are very happy with the schools. The pre-k is only half-day in NF. You shouldn't have much of problem finding something in your price range.

You would do quite well in NF, Im very familiar with it and we service hundreds of customers throughout the town. Squantz Pond is beautiful, especially in autumn. Its a very short ride to the North St. area of Danbury and everything Danbury has to offer. Also only @ 15 minutes to New Milford depending on where you are in NF.
