Ggggrrrrrrrr I'm moving out of CT
Folks, I'm moving to Denver, CO on Tuesday.
I was inching closer towards my pink slip and I had been floating my resume around since I first saw signs.
Luckily I have three offers of which the Denver one is very promising.
Though I've had my share of problems in Stamford, CT is a great place. Loved parts of Stamford, riverside (the best bakery in the world - Dimare pastry at exit 5) and Darien (I literally lived in that cool Y with an amazing view of holly pond), though I didn't get to meet the snooty folks ever at all, probably a myth. I didn't go anywhere else though. except I once drove up to waterbury to find JViello's cathedral , and then over to New Haven where an awesome guy undented my miserable bumper, painted it and stuff, all for just 150$ (If only I had found this guy when my car was broken into, Toyota won't have looted 650$ of my money)
I wanna come back here later in my career, after this recession clears away. I've always seen myself working in NYC and ride the gray train.
I hope I can still post in this forum and noone gets mad.
You can, of course, find me in other fora here. I run riot in the history, Christianity and great debates fora. I can be maniacally polemical
Good luck, all ye posters! Rememberest thy new england legacy and keepest it sacrosanct!

Hope you enjoyed your time in CT. Car break ins can happen anywhere, especially in large cities so dont let that give you a bad impression!!
Remember though that CT is not being hit as bad as states out west, mainly California and Arizona. Manhattan isn't doing bad either because only a fraction of the jobs are financial, but its that short list of people that are takign a hit (are they even, since the bailout?) CT unemployment numbers, while high than yrs before, is exactly at the nat'l average. Make sure your Denver job is secure!
The you didn't meet the snooty folks because they hide in their mansions in Darien, Greenwich and New Canaan lmao.

Rest assured, no bad impression at all. I'm just pissed because the weather is improving, the sun is smiling and with tons of beaches around, I'm packing my bags. I've heard how much CT turns gorgeous in spring and summer.

Didn't get a chance to spend Spring or Fall in CT? Come back to visit sometime. Take a Sunday drive tomorrow up the Merritt Parkway, swing over to 95 on the Milford connector and cruise around Essex, Chester, Old Saybrook (Fenwick area), even walk the downtowns of Madison and Guilford to get a coffee and experience the small town atmosphere. It will give you a little taste of CT and maybe leave you with a better ipression of the state. Essex is the most beautiful town in the country in my personal opinion. I lived lots of other places too. The Stamford area is a prime location and great place to live if you can afford it. I couldn't afford it so I had to move away from Fairfield County, haha!
If one thing is certain, you learned you need to do your "neighborhood homework" before you move. Every city has shady neighborhoods so I hope you choose the right one in Denver. It is a great city to live. If you grew up around beaches you might miss that, but the cheaper cost of living is a definite plus!!!

Sure thing, brother. I have made up my mind that this part of America is where I want to be in the thick of my career. In my mind, the recession is driving me to the middle. That is all I can say for now.
I would love to own a mansion in Darien or New Canaan. But I don't have the money lol . But I sure will check out Essex next time.
Even yesterday I drove up to Ridgefield, CT. I got an invite from the film society there to watch Joe Pantaliano's new documentary. I ran into some cool people, one of whom is a budding actress trying to get her big break. I fell flat to the ground
Ridgefield is beautiful.
