I wonder why they just didn't shoot the owner instead. The Chimp was doing what it does naturally...the human on the other hand raising a Chimp was not. Typical thinking. Idiots.

The news also noted that this chimp may be the same one that escaped a while back and caused a massive chimp hunt. That chimp was also named Travis but the connection has ot been confirmed. I agree people should not be keeping chimps as pets. They can be nasty when they get mad. I hope the woman will be okay. Jay

I cannot imagine being bitten by a chimp. I was bitten by one of those organ grinder monkeys (capuchin?) and still have the scar on my hand to prove it. They have an incredible set of canines. Chimps are supposedly seven times stronger than a human of the same body weight (shudder). If this is the same chimp that wrecked havoc before WHY was she allowed to keep it????

ITA! And I heard on the news this morning that it was indeed the same chimp that previously wreaked havoc. It was a "famous" chimp, having been in commercials, etc.

Yes, this was the same chimp who escaped earlier, Travis. God, when will people understand that these types of animals are not meant to be domesticated? I can well imagine this chimps level of frustration at times wanting to be in his natural environment. A friend of mine and her husband up in Maine found a baby raccoon and took it in. "Snuffy" did ok for a while until he matured. He attacked my friend, their dog and one of their cats. Although my friends loved Snuffy dearly, he had to go. They took him way out into the woods and left him there. Of course, with a chimp you can't just leave them someplace but I am sure there are places who would have taken him, like a zoo?? Heck, the Beardsley Park Zoo is not far from Stamford; he could have gone there.

Does anyone know if it is true that this chimp weighed close to 200 lbs? YIKES

I know you all are going to disagree with me, but why the hell did the cops have to shoot him? Why couldn't he be tazed, since it seems like cops love to use those. The fact that they opened fire on the animal (who was done with his initial attack on the woman) puts a bad taste in my mouth in regards to the first responders. Officers are supposed to use their weapon as a last resort.

That's what these animals do - especially since the chimp was going through "puberty". Shoot the owner, not the animal.
