Missing CT?
I'm a lifetime Connecticut kid. Lived my whole childhood in a small in Wilton on the border of Silvermine.
Grew up wit the apple orchards, the Hayrides, pumpkin picking, the foliage, the snow, and the town 4th of July fireworks celebrations.
But now, I'm out in Colorado Springs by the Front Range. As great as these mountains are, I can help but miss old CT. Anyone out there far away from home, singing those Connecticut/ New England blues?

I felt that way when we moved to Florida. After four years there, though, we're back in CT... and I miss the sun, sand, and palm trees. It's just what you're used to, I think.

You'll get used to it. I can think of worse places to be than the Front Range... Not a lot of snow on the Range this year is there? Looks like Vegas will be hurtin again this year. Lake Mead will be low, low, low again, there will be water restrictions out the wazoo.

I understand. A looong time ago, I was living in Denver for a year. While there were many things to enjoy there, I had this strange longing for the ocean. I was young and always had L.I. Sound as a reference point so to speak. I felt a little like a compass w/o a needle there. (I'll bet CO natives may feel that same way about the Rocky Mntns.)
Obviously, I mean this feeling in a figurative way, but the literal thing that amazed me was when I came home for a visit in April and I was shocked at how green and lush everything was. I still remember that ride up I-95 from the airport being totally amazed at the colors.
While I enjoyed skiing in shorts in Spring time and many other features, CO was a little too "brown" for me. I like the variations of our fields, deciduous forests and ocean in CT. These are things I would miss.

I'm with you! I miss Ct more and more every day. I currently live in Kansas and have never been so unhappy. I need to sell my condo that has been on the market for two years before I can move. I'm trying to keep the faith.
Stay well!

I totally understand. I was in the rural South for a year and I missed home so much that I kept coming back every few months. There is so much action here, so much life, real sports, so much REAL food! I am always raving about CT. I sound like a dork I'm sure but there is nothing like Southern New England. I know I could never be happy anywhere else. Hope ya get to come back soon. The flowers are coming up! (Yes I know we're also about to get yet another snowstorm, but I like the snow, too.)

Missing CT
AWWWWW I felt so bad whenI read your post. You are really homesick, huh? Well, cheer up...we have 10-14" of snow coming here in the middle of CT., don't know about the Wilton area but here it is going to be a major event. As a matter of fact, we have had more snow than usual this year and most of us are pretty dang tired of it all.
I too love Conn..have lived here in the Meriden, Southington area for most of my life with a short break in the early 1970's through 80's in Maine. I fell in love with Maine for sure but was anxious to get back here as well.
Think of us in all this messy snow coming next time you are homesick!

I felt the same way living in Orlando, and I too came back every 3-6 months for a visit - the first year.
The second year, not so much.
Third year, coming back the area felt depressed and I started seeing what many here who relocated complain about.
I came back to CT in 95 against my will (Long story) after being in Orlando for about 5 years. I remember thinking "OMG, what the HECK did I miss this so much for. Everyone is frumpy, the place is run down and dirty and there is NO FREAKIN WAY I can afford to live in the towns where this stuff doesnt' exist".
So when a position in Charlotte NC came my way, I took it. Charlotte really wasn't my bag, and after a corporate merger the job I had pretty much turned into vapor and the job offered was nothing close to what I wanted to do...I left.
I went back to what I knew. CT. I remember thinking to myself "What are you doing. Why are you going back there? You KNOW deep inside life is better elsewhere". But I did.
10 years later, I'm not sure I"m the better for it. Yes I have a small business, a decent modest home but looking back - I think I shorted myself.
Those small things you miss you will find were also there on the front range in their own way once you move back. I never in a million years thought I would miss camping in the Ocala National Forest, or swimming in the "springs", or my orange tree, or having kumkwats fresh off the tree, or the FL beaches etc till I moved back.
Hindsight being 20/20 maybe I didn't hate FL all that much and I'm thankful for the time I was there.
Being here in CT with a young family, it's hard. Very hard. Combine it with s small business and I'm honestly having thoughts of making my final escape for many reasons. Mostly for a better life for my family.
Looking at a place like COS, I would say "man I just can't live with houses on top of one another"...but trust me, once you get your property tax bill here, you'll see there are good and bad to everything.
Then again, if you can afford to live in Wilton, perhaps you are one of the lucky ones here in CT that don't come from my type of background.

Yep, strange isn't it?
I never thought I would miss some of the stuff I did after I left FL but I did! The morning sunrises over the lakes with the birds calling and doing their thing was a very beautiful thing I have not experienced elswhere.
