Your $$ should take you far in Stamford, CT, which has some lovely areas far removed from the downtown city area, and a bona fide Italian Center. Also closer to Brooklyn and Staten Island.

The town of Woodbridge has a church on Center Road that is mostly an Italian parish and has lots of lovely homes in your price range.

What is the distance from Trumbull to NY? Is it a long commute?

About an hour and 30 minutes driving. Same on the train if you count the drive to Bridgeport station which is the closest. My father did it daily for about four years before we moved closer to the city.

That's a fair distance. Thanks for the reply. Does anyone know if there are any new home developments in Stamford?

None that i'm aware of. Spot builds abound in North Stamford, most of which are still priced over $1 Million. New construction is primarily condo/townhouse and cluster developments(like Palmer Hill).

It sounds like you would want to live in Fairfield County to be closer to New York. A lot will depend on what you expect to get for your budget. Note that Stamford and Norwalk are larger cities and the schools, while good, are know to have issues typically found in large urban areas. You could find a home in your price range in towns like Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Westport and Wilton, but it would probably be a more modest home. Fairfield is a bit more affordable, has excellent schools and is a reasonable distance to New York. I would recommend checking there if homes in the other towns are not to your liking. Jay

closer to relocating to CT
Thanks to those who responded with some helpful info. regarding my possible relocation. The process is moving along and we are one step closer to needing to find a nice (younger) family-oriented neighbourhood to settle into. Initially, I had my sights set on Trumbull which looks to be a good area with nice homes for your money. My concern now in reading some of the posts regarding "gang" violence in Stratford and Bridgeport is that Trumbull is right next door. Does anyone feel justified cause for concern for a young family with 4 small children "setting up shop" (so to speak) in Trumbull? I'm confused more than ever now.....should I be looking elsewhere?
Thanks

No, you don't need look elsewhere. Trumbull is a beautiful, very safe town. The area the other thread is discussing is the Bridgeport/Stratford border (along Barnum Ave) not near Trumbull. Stay north of the Merritt Pkwy and you will be fine. The Trumbull/Stratford border is perfectly safe and fine. Trumbull is wonderful
