Ahhhhhh
ok....you would probably kill us at football. But we played really good all year. I'm jacked about next year. We're going to be even better. Nobody works harder than this team.

Kindly take the high school sports pep rally over to the sports forum, facebook, my space, or some equally more appropriate forum. This is a thread where the original poster wanted to know the answer to a very grown up question about investing in and moving to Oxford for their family.
For the OP. Oxford has its good points.

Thank you seymourct. You say Oxford has its good points. Are there bad points to Oxford? We are coming up to look at houses in Oxford and Monroe next week. Thanks!!

Good and bad points are relative. If you want a walkable town with a downtown area and access to mass-transit, then Oxford would not be good to you. If you want a more rural town with large lot zoning, then it would be good. Oxford is a great town as long as it fits what you are looking for. Jay

Exactly - you'll need a car in Oxford and there is no mass transit in town. Metro North serves neighboring Seymour but most people find it more beneficial to just drive to Fairfield and take the train from there to NYC. Since you won't be commuting to NYC, Norwalk or Stamford it shouldn't be a problem.
Also know that people in Oxford dislike too many stores/chains in the area. Don't expect the town to have too much shopping in the near future except for the proposed grocery store. People move there for privacy, and they pretty much want to keep it that way. I would consider Oxford a rural/suburban enclave.
Oxford's homes are on large lots with a lot of privacy - very different than FL where you are coming from. You may like it, you may not. If you're looking for more suburban, "reach out and touch your neighbor's house" kind of town, look at Milford.

We don't need to commute on mass transportation.
How much are car taxes? I keep reading about this.
Do people in CT view Oxford and Monroe favorably?

Both Oxford and Monroe are considered very desirable towns to live in. As for cars, it depends on what they are and their value. It would probably be a couple of hundred a year more though. Jay

Anyone know the current Mill Rate in OXford?
I have a 2006 Mercedes C and we also have a 2000 Cherokee. Any thoughts on the price of car tax in Oxford would be helpful.
