Southington is a pretty family oriented town- so there is likely to be mostly gay couples. New Haven and Hartford- have clubs- with New Haven being the best place. Danbury has an active gay scene as well. Westport has the famous institution 'The Brook'....
Further afield- the best place in New England for gay nightlife and recreation is in Providence Rhode Island- better then Boston IMHO-
Being Providence is a drive for you- it might be best to go for a weekend. Provincetown and Qgunquit Me in the winter are very dead.
Springfield Mass. also has some clubs- but in Southington it is like being in 'no mans land'.

Years ago, there were many clubs, and each club had its big night. In New Haven, the place to be was Kurtz (just after the Copa closed in 1990) on Saturdays. Hartford had Traxx (later renamed Sanctuary) on Sundays starting about 5:00 pm with coin (nickel, dime, quarter) beers until 9 or 9:30. Smaller, neighborhood bars were Nick's and Chez Est. Wallingford had Choices which stole the thunder from Kurtz. Westport had the Brook, and Danbury had Triangles.
The following are still in existence:
Danbury: Triangle's Café (cover)
Hartford: Chez Est (cover) and the Polo Club (Drag performances; cover)
New Haven: York Street, Gotham Citi (cover), and Partners (cover)
Westport: The Brook (cover)
Whenever I compare notes with my friends, we all agree that the nightlife isn't what it was 10 years ago. After a few drinks, we surmise that everyone has 1) paired off, 2) moved out of Connecticut, or 3) died. There's also another: 4) they've decided that it's too expensive. Some clubs charge a $6 or $7 cover with drinks costing the same.

Nightlife has never been a key draw in Connecticut for Connecticut gay men.
Rich Lee as usual finds a way to trash Connecticut with
2) moved out of Connecticut, or 3) died
Been 'out here' since 1977- Been around. I guess they are all living in Charlotte 'xenophobic' North Carolina.

Be that as it may- I seldom listen to The advice of realtor's- part of the REIC (real estate industrial complex) Since most are former retail clerks or hairdressers.

Skytrekker, don't people die in other states? And for trashing Connecticut, how does your comment do the opposite? If "Connecticut isn't a key draw for them...," why not? It's a blue state as you consistently remind everyone.
It is becoming apparent that everyone seems to have to defend their positions to YOU. By the way, I am a former Accountant. But I'm sure that your passive-aggressive remark was in keeping with your bully tactics. In the process, you managed to belittle hairdressers and retail clerks. Good going. Mission accomplished, big boy.

Rich
not to 'dis' you- but you have made so many mistakes here
I have worked as a retail clerk -but not as a hairdresser- thank you.
Your have mostly negative comments here-
Courses in Sociology, economics and geography are a wonder
and as far as real estate- how is scum bag David Lereah doing these days?
Most of his wonderful prognostications are going down fast in something called 'sub prime meltdown' that will spread- despite the spin of Lereah and the wall street wags-

But I am not a Realtor
I have also worked as a social worker and educator
and again how is the real estate guru Dr. Lereah doing these days? Spreading more lies that real estate 'never goes down'
Go look in the mirror yourself- totally uniformed and sort of 'defensive'--- oh well so goes life in the fast lane.
And in the end- just about every comment you make about Connecticut is negative- I am tired of negative people-
and try to see all that the state has to offer- something you are either blind about or cannot see.

On this note
it might be best to close - since personal acrimony is not appropriate here.
