Collinsville (part of Canton). Doesn't exactly have a green, but has a tiny little Main Street, a bike path, and occasional community events. No big shopping centers in town.

Must have friendly people and the cost of a house (not a new one) must be reasonable since we will be on a fixed income. We don't plan on traveling a lot. My husband owns a car repair shop here and would like to open one or buy one where ever we go, buy only part time. How is that for information?
There are several towns that might fit your description, but your definition of "reasonable" must be more specific. If you are not looking to spend more than 1/3 of your combined gross monthly income on a mortgage+taxes+insurance, then I would recommend Prospect, CT.

I think you should consider Collinsville. It is a quiet small town with a nice mix of locally owned stores and restaurants. A great bike trail, lots of river access, farmer's market, monthly art walks, and a huge halloween festival (about 2500 people attend, which is alot for a town of 2000). It is probably the most reasonable area in terms of home prices in the Farmington Valley.
