This is one for people with irrigation systems. Does CT mandate a backflow prevention test yearly for those who have irrigation systems? One company is telling me yes and another hasn't said anything yet. Anyone else had this done yet?

thank you!

I have a system and we have never had to do a test in Glastonbury. Of course we have our system opened and closed each year by friend's company that is in the business. If they are doing it, it is without telling us. Jay

Sorry to pull up this thread again, but we got another letter with the regulation from MDC via our irrigation company that we have to have the backflow tested by october. Are there any others with irrigation systems that are getting similar letters? I can't find anywhere on the MDC website what the penalty is and the regulation says it has to be done yearly which I think is a bit ridiculous. Anyone??

All water companies in the state of Connecticut are requiring all Backflow Preventers to be tested. The reason why is to protect you and your family from getting sick from lawn chemicals getting into your potable water " Drinking water". It is very unlikely to happen but it could. That is why we always install Backflows and Test them. The water companies are cracking down on people with Backflows to have them tested. The Water Companies have told us that they can shut customers water off and fine them if their Backflow has not been tested. Please feel free to visit fournierirrigation.com for laws and regulations on this matter

I am in Old Saybrook, CT, and have also got a letter from my irrigation company regarding this backflow prevention device test . The letter states that the State of CT Dept of Public Health. requires this test to be done every year. The fee for the test: $100. I am trying to understand whether this is indeed required and whether you were quoted a similar fee for the test. Thanks

I believe it is required but I think $100 us a lot. Try calling other irrigation companies for quotes. Jay

I believe it is now required by law - I think some time in 2009/2010 or so it came into effect. For me, it was $90.
