Hi,

We live in Western Mass. and we are planning to visit NYC for the weekend. We'd like to drive down to New Haven and take the communter train to NYC Saturday am and return Sunday night. Can someone recommend a safe place to park?

Thanks for your help!

You shouldn't have a problem using the parking garage in New Haven.

There is a parking garage right next to the train station. I have used it a number of times and it is very safe. Be aware though that it does fill up in the morning sometimes. There is another garage across the street as well as a surface lot a couple of blocks away on Orange Street (north of Route 34)that you could use as well. Jay

Since you say, "we," you're obviously a party of at least two people. From Western Mass, it would be just as easy, quicker, and probably no more expensive to drive all the way in and pay for overnight parking. People grossly overestimate the difficulty of driving into the city. I do it all the time. Use a map to figure out how to get yourself onto the Henry Hudson Parkway running down the West Side of Manhattan. Get off at 95th, 79th, or 56th streets, stash your car in the first convenient garage you come to, take the subway or a cab to wherever you're staying, and enjoy your weekend!

Does anyone know how quickly the closer parking garage fills up on Saturday mornings? Thinking of taking the family down this coming Saturday...Thanks

I am pretty sure that there is no problem on Saturdays. The problems I have seen are mostly weekdays. Jay

We did our trip last weekend. We got there at around 8:45am, and caught the train leaving at 8:55am. There were a lot of cars in the parking garage already, but no problem with finding a spot. Had to drive up to the 4th floor though.
