renting between waterbury and danbury
Hello all found this neat little site via google, My GF and I have been looking into getting an apartment between waterbury and danbury, she is going to school at west conn. and I work in Southbury, We are trying to find a place that no only can we afford but that our commutes will not be to long. 30-35 min is what we are hoping for. I have looked into living in southbury as thats were i lived till i was 8 years old and absolutly love the town. Anyways What is the best towns i should be looking at we do not have any kids so we dont need to worry about the schools, we are mostly looking for a town thats safe, not so high on car insurance, and is pleasent to live in. any help would be helpful thank you.

I would rather not. I have family members who live there and im not a fan of the town at all. seems dirty and nasty alot like many places i have seen in waterbury, I just moved back to CT after living in northern MA, and eastern PA. i want to be in a place were i can leave my cars windows down and not have to worry about not having a CD player in the morning.

Then you should be looking at rentals in the middle of cornfield country, Iowa. Sorry kiddo but you have unrealistic expectations if you think you can leave your windows down ANYWHERE and not get robbed.
I wouldnt add Naugactuck because of the traffic to Danbury. Southbury is right in between and perfect. Car ins is probably high because of the high median age and keep in mind CT has car tax. Mine was about 300 this year, it is based on your town's mil rate.

Corn feild IOWA is not needed to not get stuff stolen.. like i said i lived in northern MA were i was able to leave my keys in the car and the windows down and never had a issue along with were i lived in PA. right now im in West haven and i wont leave my GPS in my truck.
and as far as the car tax how is that priced out do they do it on a percent of blue book?

Some towns are safer than others, we've never bothered to lock our car doors in the 13 years of living in our town. Yet in Norwalk and Stamford, we always locked our doors and our cars were broken into repeatedly, no matter which areas of the cities we moved to. That said, while the crime rate is indeed low in many areas, there is no guarantee, crime still happens, our luck may one day run out. To the OP, I think crime rates in small, family-oriented towns will be lower than larger towns and cities. Again, there is no guarantee, crime still happens everywhere, if you want to leave your doors unlocked you would still be taking a chance. Also, there aren't as many apartment rentals in many family-oriented towns as there are in larger towns and cities. You might need to be more open-minded and receptive in regards to "dirty and nasty" towns unless you have a very high budget. What is your budget? That would help us narrow down some locations.

Danbury and Southbury are only about 15 miles apart so living anywhere in between or in either town would be fine. The towns between Danbury and Southbury are Bethel and Newtown. Both are very nice but affordable rentals are minimal. They do have some but there are not a lot of them. Danbury has a lot of rentals but is a small city so it does have some of the urban issues you are trying to avoid. Another option maybe New Milford. Good luck, Jay

Danbury is not as impoverished as Waterbury. Believe it or not Danbury is actually a very nice town, and I wouldn't rule it out.
