Savin Rock in West Haven. Go on a summer night on a Saturday, you will see bands and games and lots of people rollerblading & walking their dogs.

Do not expect Savin Rock to be anything like the beach boardwalks you find in other areas (like New Jersey's shore). It does not have much. There are no games, bars, and few shops. Just some restaurants mostly. Jay

For some, being unlike the Jersey boardwalks is a positive thing. Then again, some people like gaudiness that you'll find in places like Wildwood and its' ilk.
Savin Rock is mundane, but relatively peaceful and relaxing.

Most people go to Jersey shore or Rhode Island beaches if they want big waves. I have noticed that most people stay in state and go to public beaches here because they are nice.

Jersey shore is a little trashy for me

Default It depends

The Jersey shore is probably about 200 miles long. Don't base your opinion on one or two visits. There is a wide variety of towns, parks, beaches. Some are honky-tonk and some are very upscale. Some over developed some beautifully preserved. Some mostly condo and hotels, others heavily residential both year round and vacation homes. Most are easily accessible from CT especially if you travel during non-peak times.

New Jersey's beaches are generally very nice. The water and weather often noticeably warmer than CT, RI, and the Cape. Oh, and time of year matters too.

We like some of the more sedate towns occasionally venturing out for a night on the 'boards' or to Atlantic City. We can drive to Avalon, near the bottom of Jersey, in about 3.5 hours or Lavallete/Seaside Park in the center in about 2.5.

It depends on what you seek. There is pretty well something for everyone.

I like the New Jersey shore. It has so much to do and offer. Connecticut beaches are not the greatest with most open only to Long Island Sound. the connecticut shore is kind of quiet really. What is has going for it is it is close and not hard to get to. For fun, most people we know head up to Cape Cod and a couple go to Rhode Island. Jay

Growing up, I typically went to the RI beaches. Still love them to this day.

Is there any part of the CT shore that faces the Atlantic Ocean and not the LI sound?
