I'm a native of Newington so I cannot speak much for Plainville or Bristol's apartment scene. Newington is primarily a residential suburb of single-family homes. However, there are a few apartment complexes scattered about town. If you're working in Bristol, I would suggest you take a look at the Fenn-Woode complex on Fenn Road in western Newington. I had a family friend who lived there once and found it pleasant and convenient. You would be very close to Route 9, which connects to Route 72 (to Bristol).

One thing about Fenn-Woode to keep in mind is that you have to drive pretty much everywhere. The apartment complex is set up on a ridge and away from the road; however, Fenn Road itself is a busy artery and not pedestrian friendly.

Good Luck!

Don't rule out Southington, Bristol's neighbor to the south.
