ITA, and also Maine. These are the only states I've ever experienced animosity in. They frequently call Ct. residents "flat landers" in a derisive tone. I was also wondering if perhaps the OP was driving in an irritating manner, it might have had nothing to do with their Ct. license plate.

I've got a friend in the Rutland area and he thinks anyone that is not from New England is a Flatlander. I don't think he lumps in everyone from New England that is not from VT, though I know he does not think too highly of the people from the Boston area.

Hope this doesn't turn into a N vs S thread again.

I grew up in Simsbury and it is an international community. Many of my friends growing up were from the South because their parents moved to our town when they took jobs in Hartford. Several others were from other countries including England, Scotland, Canada and Germany. Also, my Father's Father was from a small town in Texas and he married a woman (my Grandmother) from a small town in Vermont when he was in the Army Air Corps. Initially they lived on Long Island but eventually settled in the Hartford area.
That being the case, perhaps when I travel down South, the people detect I am a bit different than the average Nutmegger who may not have had the same kind of exposure to the southern culture and people. I do know that we didn't have any real issues with the people from the south when they did move to Simsbury as most seemed to get along quite well with us locals. But many of the Midwestern people that hailed from points west of Ohio and Indiana had some troubles adjusting to our culture in Simsbury.

I lived in Georgia and visited alot since I moved. I have never EVER experienced dislike down there, but honestly, people cant tell that I'm from CT anyways. I do have to admit though, when I'm referring to Georgia around my family that still lives down there, they always say "well u never really went outside the metro". So I'm guessing outside the metro is way different from the inside?

I think Decatur where the OP is referring to is a suburb of Atlanta. My guess is they inadvertently cut someone off, and the CT plate just fueled their anger?
I do notice in CT though, that people drive more aggressive around out of staters. I'm not sure why - I noticed this in NJ too. Maybe to "show off?" LOL I don't know. Weird thread though.
OP - what kind of car do you drive?

that's interesting.. any examples of what 'we' do up there that irritates them so? (never been there myself).
Boston i think has a negative attitude towards us but i think it's because most up there are Red Sox fans. in most cases, these people have never set foot down here but they trash us anyway for no better reason than our proximity to NY. that is we have more Yankee fans down here than anywhere else in New England and they can't stand it. i don't like that fact either but i don't hate the whole state because of it (not that i hate some of it - you know what i mean).

Other than re-electing T. Dodd over and over, for me it was the weather.
I moved to Fla. Plenty of New Englanders down here. No difference except I don't have to shovel my rain.
