Not a good idea to put too much info out there. I woulld NEVER post a specific house or address you were interested in buying.
Definately use a realtor to represent you as a buyer.
The only opinion you need to worry about when buying a house is your own, don't you think?

Well, I DO agree for the final stage, "DEFINITELY" use an agent... I HAVE rented, bought, and even sold... and if we don't do "our own" homework before we sign on the dotted line I believe we'll be sorry... Be careful of everyone that stands to make a buck on the transaction(and this is normal, it's how they make their living)... I don't want to offend anyone, there are some wonderful agents out there... But again (in my opinion)we have to do our own homework . AND what a wonderful easy tool we have right here at our service and "it's free"!!!
I mentioned opinion "not of the house", but of the "area, neighborhood, etc"... What a difference a town line makes... For people that don't know an area just buying a house in the next town over could mean a drastic change in property taxes, etc, etc...
But "YOU ARE RIGHT", bottom line is YOU are picking your house, and I too recommend a good Realtor!

True, do you homework.
I know that I've posted this several times, but it never hurts to repeat it:
A buyer-broker agreement can be very broad in scope (agent to represent buyer in search for property in Connecticut) to narrow in scope (agent to represent buyer in search for single-family property, located at 123 Main St, North Haven, Connecticut).
Buyers have every opportuity to define the scope as 1) a single property, 2) a certain type of property in a certain town, or 3) all real property in Connecticut.
Agents sometimes will keep the scope simple if they feel the buyer will be too demanding (and/or unrealistic) at which point the agent can rid him/herself of the buyer. It's meant to be a two-way street.

So true! And the more you hang around, the more you realize no one is who they say they are.

The internet is a lure for creepsters, pedophiles and all sorts of crazy people. I agree no one can be too careful. None of us truly know who is posting. Nothing wrong with being cautious in this internet age!

Sheltie, I think they were just making comments of a general sort. Kind of like saying "drive carefully" rather than saying, "drive carefully when church lets out because those Baptists/Catholics/Lutherans drive like bats outta hell to get back home in time to catch the start of the football game!" Which in some areas would be very wise words...

Some members who have been around here awhile have learned that not everyone here is really who they say they are. Unfortunately that's fairly common in the internet world. It's just best just to be cautious and not give out too much information for your own safety.
