No, I have not. However two stores you can name cannot compare to Milford's very many.

The OP did ask about shopping. I don't think it's irrelevant. JMO

Two meetings turned family vacation. And how might that be more "on topic" than discussing shopping in New Haven and Milford?
Maybe we can get back to discussing the difference between Milford and New Haven now, and not my personal life. Thanks!

I do find the explanations helpful, and I appreciate the different perspectives. I'm not much of a shopper, and I don't shop at Walmart, but it's good to know there's a mall within shooting distance, if not in town. And it's assuring to know there are good independents around when you're looking for something interesting. More useful to me on an everyday basis are food markets/restaurants, occasionally a gardening center, a good knowledgable sporting goods store with service (unlike my experiences with the chains), a good bike shop, great ice cream for the kids...

If you went in them you'd change your mind.

It sounds as though we talking about niche stores versus mass-appeal/mass-market retailers. Are we not?

Considering that the Orange/Milford strip and downtown New Haven are all of 10-15 minutes apart, it seems like a moot point to crown a winner in this debate because both places are roughly equally accessible from anywhere in New Haven County.
To the OP, how long does your family plan to stay? If this is intended to be "permanent," then I think you should consider the quality of life issues over the ease of commuting. It doesn't matter how fast you can get home if you don't like arriving there. What does your family do for leisure? Do you want "the best" public schools or will "very good" suffice? Who do you want for neighbors? Who do you want your kids to be friends with? What kind of people do you want your kids' friends' parents to be?

My family and I are considering moving to North Haven and would like to know about the school system and nice places to live before we even consider purchasing a home. How well does the community interact with different cultures? Are there any problems with diversity within the schools?
