Thanks guys.
We aren't too concerned about the roof since the house we're currently in needs much more than that. I looked up the mines but had a hard time figuring out exactly where in Cheshire they were located ... doesn't seem like too much of an issue judging from my google search but I will look into it more. Thanks for bringing it up - I remember that issue coming up here on the board awhile ago.
I know we're going to be doing quite the commute which is why we want something halfway. We looked at Seymour but it was too far from Torrington, then started looking into Watertown, Cheshire and Middlebury. Can't get much for our price range so we're pretty limited. We also considered moving to FL but my wife will begin teaching in Sept. and prefers to teach up here where the pay is substantially higher (but the COL is much more too ).
I guess I'll have to get used to the Route 8 traffic. I've been spoiled living a few miles from work. I hear everyone complaining about the back up on RT 8 in the morning so I'll just have to leave extra time.
Where can I find updated mil rates for Cheshire v Shelton?

I DMed you KID!
My DH used to commute Torrington TO Bristol and it took him about 30 minutes give or take. So it will likely take your wife a bit longer then that.
But with that said I'd rather drive route 8 then MOST other highways in CT. There is never traffic, at least not up towards the torrington way.

I was also thinking about, for myself to go the Wilbur Cross/Merritt Parkway South to Rt 8 North. It's only a difference of a few miles, and from what I understand 15 South traffic doesn't get bad until Trumbull. Might be worth it? Thanks for the info.

Kid - Torrington is 32 miles straight up Route 8 from Seymour. I can't imagine it taking much more than a half hour to drive. Cheshire is 31 miles but would take at least 40 minutes because it is further remoed from Route 8. Am I missing something? Jay

The new ones haven't been finalized yet. Even though Cheshire's mill rate might seem reasonable, it's because property values are assessed high.

We did a dry run a few weeks ago and without traffic, Seymour to Torrington was about 55 minutes door to door. It was about 38 miles. Cheshire to Torrington is about 33 miles and would take about 10 minutes less. Not a big difference, but we like the Cheshire school system and Seymour prices aren't cheap.

I htinnk that during rush hour the trip on Route 8 will be shorter since it is all highway. Can't argue with you about the schools though. Jay

True - traffic is heavy south of Waterbury and her commute would be reverse, but once we're north of Waterbury it's great.

Waterbury's congestion is west and east of the city. North/south flows pretty smoothly. Depending on when she'll be traveling I-84 to Route 8 north, she might miss the traffic.

Everyone is forgetting to tell you that they plan on remodeling Route 8/I-84 in Waterbury, and its gonna take 20 years, thats 2-0 years. They plan on moving the entire highway west of its current position from exits 30-33, and make the mixmaster 1 level starting from the mall up to highland avenue. I believe this is to start in 2012 (probably economy permitting). I dont know how long you guys are planning on living in cheshire, but this should definately effect your commute. (especially seeing how nothing usually goes right in waterbury)
