Rich don't you think movement on I-84 is alot better since the construction? Or did it not change much?

It didn't change at all. On Route 8 northbound in Naugatuck, the message sign shows "I-84 East delays to Exit 26" almost daily. And, the few times that I've tried to go to Danbury on weekends, I've been stuck going and coming back. It won't be until Phase II (Exit 25A to Route 8) and the Mixmaster renovation are complete that it totally improves.
As an aside, the retail development between Exits 25A and 26 (near Costco) is certain to add to the congestion. Speaking of Costco, they now have self-checkout registers!

There is a lot of talk about the mix master in Waterbury but I doubt it will ever get moved the way it has been proposed. It would be so expensive and I really do not see the need for such an expensive project. But then again you never know what will happen. John Rowland could get re-elected as governor and Waterbury could again become the "center of the universe". Jay

Hmm thanks. It should be interesting to see what happens. As of now it looks like 15 S to 8 N would be the way to go for me. We're putting an offer in tomorrow, and plan on staying for the long run if accepted. We were so close to moving to FL but after some research, we found it would be pricey to send kids to private schools down there, and while home prices in the Sarasota bay are cheaper than here, insurance was incredible down there.

Good luck! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. By the way, the neighboring property just went on SHOW status for the second time. It was listed 8 days after the property in which you're interested. If it works out for you both, you'll have something in common - moving in at the same time.

Thanks Rich! We're keeping our fingers crossed here too since we're not in the area right now. Previously I didn't know much about Cheshire other than it was known for it's great schools but the more I read about the town the more I like it there.

All I'm allowed to say about Cheshire's schools is that Kindergarten, the middle school, and the high school are all centralized, but there are several elementary schools.
When looking for a property in 1991, we choose towns between New Milford and Middletown. The contenders were Southington and Cheshire. Cheshire won out. Schools were never going to be an factor. When we decided to upsize in 2001, we were pretty open on towns. As luck would have it, we found something in Cheshire.
Cheshire used to have a Welcome Wagon. I'm not sure if we still do.

Or the new version of the WPA projects with stimulus money start to actually happen.

Move to Waterbury and put your kids in Private school.
I know it's a little late now as you already said you were putting in an offer, but what came to my mind for other towns was - in no particular order: Thomaston/Northfield (RT254/109 area is simply beautiful.) about 30 miles to Shelton straight down RT 8, Watertown (If you can handle all the Waterbury escapees. ) Oxford, Beacon Falls, Prospect.
With two working parents, IMHO I think it's easier if one has a longer commute and one is closer to home in case something happens (Illness, injury etc) IMO being North of Waterbury and closer to Torrington will allow your wife easier access to home/kids (Daycare I assume) if there is a need.
I made the RT68 drive from RT8 Naugatuck to Wallingford through Cheshire for about 6 months when I moved back to CT. It wasn't bad, about a 20 minute trip...from Cheshire center it would be 10-15 minutes. RT42 is another story. As Rich noted, lots of curves, elevation changes etc that makes a slower go.
Since the new bridge has been put in on 15, does traffic still ball up near Sikorsky anymore? It used to be pretty bad...something else to consider.
Well, good luck Kid. Cheshire is a nice town.

The quick answer is "No." However, depending on the oncoming traffic from the I-95 Connector to the Wilbur Cross Pkwy southbound, sometimes the overzealous types immediately head to the left-hand lane while those already on Route 15 are trying to move to the right-hand lane for the Route 110 exit. There's a lot of last-minute breaking as a result.

I don't know if you guys caught this, but this has not only been the funniest thing Jay has ever said, it is probably the funniest thing I've ever seen on this board. L.M.A.O.!!!
I'm actually NOT in favor of moving the mixmaster but the Rep-Am did an article one Sunday about how South End residents were in favor because right now, the highway is built on a bank and all day all you hear is trucks. But u gotta recognize that the current mixmaster wont last forever. I think its ridiculous to move such a hugh highway. Waterbury has woods to the north, and I always wonder why they cant just extend 691 to the north and make a bypass.
