Default Mulch. Where to buy?

I need mulch. Allot of mulch, 15-20sq yards. Where can I find nice mulch in upper Fairfield Co. at a good price? I have only called one place and they said $48 per sq yard, delivered and dumped in my drive. I never in my life dreamed I would be paying so much for mulch. How much is everyone else paying this year for their mulch?

There is a place over off of Newtown Rd, on Plumtrees Rd, in Danbury & over by the Danbury airport that sells mulch.I don't know the names of the places though.

Call a few tree removal companies in your area and ask if they have free mulch. Often they will deliver for free, too, if you take a substantial amount. It keeps them from having to pay dumping fees and you get free mulch. Everybody wins. When I lived in Stamford I got free pine mulch every year this way.

PS. The free mulch isn't as pretty as the mulch purchased from a nursery but works just as well for the plants and looks nice once it is aged a bit.

I was able to get mulch delivered for $32 per yard from New England Mulch. They sell several grades of mulch, including the $48 per yard mulch, but I am very pleased with the look of the $32 per yard mulch. It is tree stumps, ground and aged.

Yeah, me either. And to think some people do it every year! I been hesitating getting mine. Red is tacky. Black heats up to quick, brown is in but I dont like it cause it looks like dirt next year. The black and red will have color if you turn it over the next year.

Try "Designs By Lee" on Interlaken Road in Stamford. Not sure if they deliver that far but worth a shot.

I wonder if Lowes delivers Mulch.

I heard people are using recycled platic bottles? Its free, shiny and no need to re mulch in future.

Just a side note from someone who worked as a landscaper in his youth in southern Connecticut:

Make darn sure the tree cutting company doesn’t give you just plain wood shavings from trees/stumps that where ground down. Connecticut is a mighty humid place. Wood and summer humidity/rainfall sometimes draws termites and carpenter ants. Pine mulch is fine, but make sure the wood chips are treated.

I ordered the mulch from D R Charles in Monroe 445-0412 at $38 a sq yard by purchasing 10 yards. No extra delivery charge to my area. I really need 20 yards ($32sq yard) but was not sure how much space it was going to take in the driveway.

Thanks for all the help.

We ordered 11 yards of top soil from D R Charles a few weeks ago, and they had it delivered an hour after I ordered it. Great service.
