Hiring a realtor is free. Just email one and they will be happy to send you listings of apartments under $300k.

You can also check Realtor.com for listings and/or signup on one of the area real estate company's website for listings. Jay

You won't find a decent SF in Stamford for 300K, the market hasn't quite gotten there..yet(?). Norwalk is obviously more affordable, how far 300K will go there, i'll leave to those more in tune with Norwalk.

Plenty of places in the Danbury area in that price range.

There are very few houses under $300k in Stamford...but, in this market, one can get a great deal compared to just last year at this time.
As for condos, under $300k is achievable. Head to realtor.com and check it out.

As someone else noted, you will definitely be able to do it in Danbury. I know quite a few people who live in Danbury and commute to Stamford, the commute, while not too long in distance is problematic because there's not a direct highway connection, you either have to go down US 7 to Norwalk and get on I-95 or the Merritt Parkway, take I-684 down to the eastern part of White Plains and go on either the Hutch/Merritt Parkway or down I-287 to I-95 (all highway, but somewhat roundabout and indirect), or take a lot of backroads.
But it's better than the ultimate extreme, a couple of people I know of who commute to Stamford from Waterbury (direct on highway, but quite far). Good luck!
