Apartments in/near Simsbury?? Need help!!!
Hi,
Next month, I'm planning to move to Simsbury(near Hartford) from Minnesota because of job. When I searched for apartments in rent.com and apartments.com, I couldn't find any apartments for rental in Simsbury area. Are there any apartments in Simsbury? I'm looking for a 1-2 BRM apartment and the budget for rent is $800 - $1000. Also, like to be away from the crime area. Please help me to find a good safe place to live that is within 5-10 miles from Simsbury.
Thanks in advance!!!

Expand your search to include Avon. It is right next to Simsbury. Both are very nice, low crime areas. You may want to try online classified in the local paper or craigslist to find more options.

Look at Avon Old Farms hotel. They have three apartments for long term stays. I don't know how much they are a month, but we stayed there 16 years ago when we moved here. It was nice to have a place for the four of us and the dog.

Good luck and welcome to Simsbury!

This area is nothing like the midwest metro's. You won't find burbs ringing the city with apartments and strip malls that lead out to farm land. It's different here. Much different - in a good way IMHO. You might be in a for a little bit of culture shock in that regard until you adjust to our provincial ways here. (Trust me, people who live 5 minutes outside of Hartford will never tell someone abroad they live in "Hartford"...they will say Collinsville which is a village inside of a small town. lol)
You're not really going to find apartment complexes like you see on rent.com etc in Simsbury. If you do find apartments they are usually private rentals of privately owned condo's or an old farmhouse split up into apartments. Check the courant www.courant.com which is the local newspaper.
The West End of Hartford, and West Hartford will have something for you as will Farmington.
Don't know your budget so it's kind of hard to point to an area.
If you don't mind a 30 minute commute, Manchester has the style aparment complexes you are probably used to seeing along with all the chain stores and shopping "stuff" and is a relatively safe and good small city to live in with easy highway access to Simsbury. I live there myself.

Try the Yankee Flyer. There are condos for rent in town that rent. Many can be found be using a realtor. Most anything in that area is safe.

ganeshuu - Welcome to CT. I am sure you will like it here. Simsbury is an upscale suburb of Hartford that is a bit isolated from the rest of the city because it is located on the other side of a small mountain range west of Hartford. The area is commonly referred to as the Farmington Valley because it is a valley with the Farmington River at it's bottom. The area includes the towns of Avon. Farmington, Simsbury, Canton and Granby, plus a few other small communities, all of which are very pricey suburbs of Hartford. Apartments are somewhat rare and usually pricey. There are a few condo complexes around but I doubt there will be a lot advertised on Craigs List. You could check with local realtors for any listings or the Hartford Courant for listings. If you do not find anything in those towns, try West Hartford or the west end of Hartford. You could also check the towns of Bloomfield and Windsor. Good luck. Jay

We rented a home (not an apt.) before we bought our home in CT. Our rental was found through a realtor. We found that it was not always easy to find rentals in the suburban areas - atleast not the areas that we were searching.
However, a quick search on craigslist resulted in quite a few listings...

If that doesn't work, you may need to contact a realtor that also does property management. Google property management companies.
p.s. best of luck in your move. I am in Minneapolis now but always long to return to southern New England.

Currently there are 5 rentals available in Simsbury through a Realtor and they range from $1100.00 to $5000.00 per month. The $5000. one is a home. In nearby Avon there are 11 rentals ranging from $515.00 to $5000.00. Most of these are homes with the exception of the $515.00 which is a studio apartment. In Farmington there are 10 rentals ranging from $900.00 to $2600.00 per month. Hopefully this info helps. let me know if you need info on any other areas around Simsbury.

I agree with the previous poster to check out the Yankee Flyer, a local hometown classified. They are online at: http://www.yflyer.com. You will find more rentals in that weekly publication than with a realtor. There are some apartment buildings in Simsbury, but beware of ELECTRIC HEAT if you will be renting into next winter. That bill can beat your rental bill easily. Good luck! :-)
