Making a move!!
Hi Everyone-
I was wondering if anyone could give some information about Connecticut?
I am a single mother to 3 beautiful children but we are pretty much just up and moving from our home to escape a abusive relationship. So with my company I can come and work in West Hartford or South Windsor. I have never been to Connecticut but I hear it is beautiful.
I need to see if anyone knows of any resources in the state that might help us with getting into a place to live. And any other resources would be great.
I would greatly appreciate any help!
Beth

When moving into CT your budget is most important. So what is the most you can spend on rent/housing. That will help us reccomend an area for you.
What state resources are you looking for??
Good for you escaping an abusive relationship!!! Us women have to be strong!! Good for you!!!

Connecticut is a great place to raise children. The schools here are generally considered among the best in the country and there is a lot of great family activites. West Hartford and South Windsor are in the greater Hartford region with South Windsor being located to the east of Hartford and West HArtford being located to the west (what a surprise!). Both towns are very nice suburbs of Hartford which is a small city (population 122,000 in 17 square miles). Unlike cities in other parts of the country, Hartford is a small city surrounded by a number of small but completely independent towns that together form the greater Hartford area. The metropolitan region has about 1 milion people in total. West Hartford is a bit older and more densely developed and South Windsor is more suburban in character. Both are good places to live and raise a family but note they can be expensive. Not knowing where you are coming from, it is hard to know if you will find this area expensive or not. If you come from a major city like New York or Los Angeles, you will find the area somewhat cheaper, but if you come from a place like Texas or Florida you might find it to be expensive. There are a number of great towns nearby that could be considered more affordable to consider. I hope this helps. Jay

Unfortunately, with no money securing a rental anywhere in the area will be nearly impossible. In safe areas for your kids a 2 bedroom apartment would likely be 1000 a month and it would be higher for a 3 bedroom.
Most rentals also ask for at least one month security and first month sometimes even last month as well.
Perhaps you could rent a room in a cheap motel or something for awhile.
This group in CT can provide emergency shelter at their Rose Hill facility which is special housing just for women and children of domestic abuse http://www.prudencecrandall.org/page...llfacility.cfm
Perhaps you could call their toll free number and ask if they can help you for awhile.
It is located in Central CT so it would be close to BOTH South Windsor and West Hartford.
It sounds like the PERFECT place for you to call and see if they have an "apartment" for you..

Bravo to you for getting out of an abusive relationship! I do have to ask, however, why you would want any of your information on here?? Isn't the whole idea of escaping an abusive relationship to never, ever let your abuser know where you are going? That being said....my pick would be West Hartford. I have driven through there, my sister works there and I think it does appear to be a really nice area.
Contact the Department of Human Services in Connecticut and find out if there is any help available for a single Mom with 3 kids. They maybe able to point you in the right direction. After that, get in touch with a reputable real estate agency and see if they can also recommend a rent for you.
Once you get all your information....I would suggest that you not put it on here...unless you have some sort of agreement with your abuser I don't know it just doesn't seem like a great idea to advertise where you will be living on an open forum....think about that one, ok? For the kids? For you? Good Luck with the search for a new home!

Please don't give up....come on to Connecticut!! When I left my ex husband, I drove back home here to Connecticut with 300 in my pocket, a beat up old car with bald tires, all my belongings in garbage bags, a tiny spot in the backseat for my dog to sit among the garbage bags and my 11 year old son crammed into the front seat. I had never driven from Maine to Connecticut before, was 31 years old and scared to death but I did it and so can you. Stay determined, stay strong. At one point coming down from Maine, I got lost getting off the interstate...I pulled into a Maine State Police barracks and went inside CRYING and I blurt out the whole story...I was lost, I was leaving my husband...the whole thing. One of them actually had me follow him back on the interstate to the exit I was suppose to take! This was well before cell phones came into existence...so I know you can do this.
Call the Department of Health and Welfare here in CT...not sure of the number, but you can find it I am sure. Explain your situation and I am sure someone will help you.
Promise us on here that you will follow through and get away from your abuser....we are all now invested in this just a tad so chin up and come on up here. You won't regret it.

Thank you all so much for your kind words. I know I have to get away and I know I can do it; its just getting through the first step. I will call the Department of Health and Welfare and also Rose Hill facility. I have the numbers and I will get in contact with them on Tuesday!
Thanks again!! It means the world to me!
