Check out Monroe, Trumbull and Newtown. I think you will be impressed.

I agree! Towns here have top schools and Ffld County is one beautiful town after another. Tons of amenities for all.
Frankly, there is no comparing Meriden with the likes of Newtown, Trumbull, Monroe, New Fairfield, Brookfield or Bethel, etc.

True, but I don't believe anybody did (directly). The closest comparison to Meriden in Fairfield County would be Stratford.

Ahh Stratford, Ct Resident - Why did you not mention your hometown??? It is more affordable than other Fairfield County towns and has great access to Stamford and Greenwich. I believe there would be some very nice homes in the $450k price range. Another option is Milford.
If being near Ridgefield is a top priority, then consider Brookfield and New fairfield. Good luck, Jay

LOL. The "acre" part of the equation was why i hadn't recommended Stratford. You won't find an acre outside of the Oronoque/Putney/Beaver Dam areas of Stratford, and they tend to be rugged lots. The newer homes in those areas will be over the OP's budget, and the older homes are most typically estate sale situations(i.e.: Outdated and need a gut job to modernize). I'd have to believe that an acre will be much, much easier to find inland(Newtown/Monroe/New Milford/Brookfield/Etc.).

I guess you are right. The OP maybe forced to move further out, buy a house on a smaller lot or up their price. I do wish them my best. Jay

Move further out? From Ridgefield and lower Fairfield County? Monroe, Newtown, Trumbull, Easton are are much closer to Ridgefield and lower Fairfield County than Stratford. Stratford does not offer the same quality of life as these towns either. I'm not downplaying Stratford in any means but it does have some sketchy neighborhoods bordering Bridgeport that's for sure. Also the school systems are not rated nearly as high as the other towns.

There are some isolated pockets within town that may appear to be questionable to an outsider. Which neighborhoods that border Bridgeport feel sketchy to you, from a visitor's standpoint?

I have to agree with Mets (again). The OP is looking as close as possible to Ridgefield with some great recommendations. Why would Stratford be recommended? Not only is it not close, it is not comparable with towns such as Bethel, Brookfield, New Fairfield, Newtown and the others mentioned. No need for me to explain the differences because that would be taking this thread off topic!

I'm going to have to go with Monroe on this one. Lots of space, not uber priced, reasonable distance to Ridgefield.
