Default Ct Networking- Job Search

Since there are so many people moving into the state, I thought it would be a good idea to help each other out with the job search. I find it hard to get into the hospitals and universities, etc. Let's network!

For those moving into CT list briefly: your education, title at previous job, what kind of work are you looking for, what areas are you willing to commute to.

I'll start:
-Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and Management
-Medicare Appeals Analyst and Health Promotion Associate
-Would like to work at hospital, university, managed care, health plans, etc
-Commute: I live in Hamden, I would go as far down as Bridgeport and up to Meriden.

Good Luck to everyone with your searches. Hopefully we can make some good connections through this forum.

I'll post, too...

B.A. English
M.S. Education
English teacher for 4 years
Loan Officer for 700 employee Mortgage Broker firm (1 year)
Owner of small real estate investment company in Albany, NY (8 units and growing)

I'm 28, so my professional experience is mostly as a teacher thus far, but after seeing the kind of income I can earn as an LO and in my real estate business, I'm seriously considering a career change as well as relocating to a better job market.

George who are you a PM for? I am in the process of making a career shift into PM from IT. I have completed IS/IT Project Management and Mastering Project Management from Villanova University. My next one is PM Capstone covering the 5 PMI processes of initiation, planning, executing, monitoring and control and closing in large corporation-government environment. It's been a lot to take in over a two month period. So many new acronyms and formulas.

Do you like it? What kind of IT projects do you work on? Any advice?

In one way or another I have been a PM for most of my IT career. My background was in IT as yourself. Are you PMP Certified? That is pretty big to get you in the door. I recently joined United Health Group. Send me an email to paivag@hotmail.com and we can chat more in depth.

Not a PMP yet. I have a ways to go. Have to finish this course and the paperwork for PMP or CAPM. Not sure if I'm going to have enough project hours to qualify for PMP. Funny. I had a call the day after I took my current position to interview with United Health to work in their email/Exchange environment. I have to tell you, I'm getting sick of certifications First IT and now Project Management. I understand the need, but it all starts to feel like a money making racket after awhile.

I'm not sure if people are using this much (since no one's posted since April) but it couldn't hurt

Bachelor of Fine Arts, Creative Writing Major, Art Minor

My most recent involving this would be Copy Chief of a multicultural magazine (which I still hold). My most recent as far as actual paying job is Front Desk Agent at a hotel (yes, see why I'm trying to get out of OH? lol)

I am looking for work in editing. Because of my experience, and that it's what I'm pretty good at, I'm mostly focusing on copy editing jobs. While I shy away from newspapers, I would consider them so long as layout wasn't required (never learned it where I was) or they'd be willing to train. Otherwise, I've been looking into magazines and advertising/marketing. While I can do writing if it is part of the job (and would consider copywriting, again if it was entry level and they didn't expect prior experience in copywriting precisely), it's not the focus I'm looking at (ie, I shy away from journalism unless it's editing related).

I'm currently living in OH, possibly soon to be FL but looking at CT as my best option for this field, so I'm really not picky. I'm willing to try just about anywhere in CT Often, when I do job searches ones not remotely related to my field come up (RN jobs, etc.) so I'll keep your guys in mind if anything catches my eye

RAND915 is on a distinguished road
- MBA Management of Operations and Technology

- BS Computer Information Systems

- Sales & Business Development; Information Systems Analyst; System Administrator

- Took my current job to learn about Sales (work at an IT consulting firm) and branch out a bit before relocating to CT. Am interested in a variety of positions, but I don't have a burning desire to be a Business Analyst. I am very interested in IT Strategy and Business Strategy/Planning. I also came across an opportunity for a Marketing Manager that involved a lot of strategic planning that I am thinking of applying too. I like the Healthcare sector.

- I would be able to commute to the following towns:
Simsbury, Bloomfield, Hartford, West Hartford, Farmington, Avon, Waterbury, Bristol, the Torrington area. Hartford is as far east as I can go, otherwise my trip would be well over an hour each way with no traffic.
