1) Where is a good area for a single, 20 something male to live (I'd prefer downtown so I could walk/bike/rail to work, and I'd assume that the bar scene is better either downtown/west end areas)?
2) Any other tips or recommendations that may aid me in my decision to relocate to Hartford over another location such as St. Louis would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any and all of your help!

Hmm, boy where to start.
Well, the airport is not the same as you remember it. Total revamp, nice, new, clean, modern etc.

Remember Hartford is very small land areawise so you have options outside of DT. I'm thinking West End would be a good place for you. We are talking 1-1.5 miles from Downtown, so it's not like you are "far out". There are also great options downtown though such as Hartford 21.
http://www.hartford21.com Just know that housing downtown is about 95% capacity so it might be a little harder to find a place.
Park Street in West Hartford/Hartford border is a great option as well.
The "Bar scene" is more concentrated in the West Side of DT, but the Front Street project (When it gets finished.

) might change that...they used Beale Street as a "target". We'll see.

In the West End there are a lot of places as well, but they are more the local pub hang out type places IMO.
It's funny you mentioned St Louis, I spent a decent amount of time there and considered a relocation there about 10 years ago due to several factors that no longer hold water. There are a lot of similarities believe it or not. Both "older" and "historic" both have an unfair rep for being something they are not, skyline about the same size etc etc.
Looking back I'm glad I didn't go to St Louis. It's a nice city, but a bit of a landlocked island for me.
The difference between St Louis and here is you have the ocean 30 miles away, gorgeous countryside surrounding the city, Boston and NYC roughly 90 miles away for day trips and the mountain range of Northern New England starting about 1 hour north...not to say it's flat here, far from it. Both cities are set on a river as well.
Lots of history and culture here as well.
I hope that gets you started. Check out the photo thread as I posted a bunch of pics of DT in the first page and towards the end.
