Default Connecticut Schools in the Top 1500 in US

Only 12 Schools from Connecticut made it onto Newsweek's list of top 1,500 schools. These are the winners. The ** means that Fitch's scores include IB and/or Cambridge tests while nearly all other schools only provided AP tests. The link is here: America's Top Public High Schools | Newsweek Best High Schools | Newsweek.com

I wouldn't pay any attention to this list...schools that were on this list for years (Ridgefield and New Fairfield) are not on it now? What, are these school systems failing now? Alot of school systems have pulled out of this study. I see alot of schools for FL on the list, FL schools are not that good...another example, Yonkers NY is # 136...there is noooo way they are the 136th best school in the country...no way! People never move to Yonkers for their schools...they move out!

I agree. I see schools on this list from other states we have lived that were not good schools at all.

The methodology of this study is highly skewed, to say the least. AP and/ or IB testing is not practiced widely at many schools, and those numbers are the foundation of these rankings.

It would be interesting to see a ranking based on the percentage of graduating seniors who matriculate at the top 20 colleges/ universities. You'd see a top 10 with Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, New Trier and the private schools like Exeter, etc.

This ranking is a snapshot of some of the schools that have done well in a couple of different areas. The AP and IB testing is used because they are higher than average level tests that are standard for a school year all across the nation, and AP tests also provide college credit if you do well enough on it. It is obviously not a perfectly accurate measure of every school system, and this ranking doesn't apply to you if you are not interested in AP or IB testing results. Having been in the rankings previously and no longer being in the rankings does not constitute failure. There are only 1500 schools in this ranking out of the roughly 97,000 public high schools in the nation.

To compile a ranking dependent on these standards would simply take the subjective process of ranking and move it to the College/University level, where once again it becomes controversial because what constitutes the best if you don't use some sort of objective basis? Also, this listing is only of public schools.

I didn't mean to start any drama about this issue, I just thought some people might be interested in seeing these rankings. Please don't slam any of the schools that are included or not included this list. Thank You.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME? First of all, there is no indication that the schools that haven't made the list are FAILING. Florida schools are not that good? You have been to every school in Florida? And people don't move to New York City because of their schools either, so should we take Stuyvesant and Bronx Science off too? Are their anymore schools that you feel like discrediting?

Please stop the trollish posts. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Neat that Conard is on the list, in the training program I am in this summer I have gotten to know their principal, Tom Moore, quite well, he is very interesting "out of the box" kind of guy.
