From Greenwich to Bridgeport would take about 30 minutes without traffic. There is a lot of traffic on 95 since it is one of the busiest stretches of highway in the country, and through Stamford can be a nightmare around exits 7-10. I would suggest looking in Darien so you're east of Stamford (your husband wouldn't have to worry about Stamford 95 traffic, and you're still close to Manhattan). Darien is very expensive, and is smaller than Greenwich, but is equally beautiful.
Also, I would recommend you take Metro North into Manhattan because traffic during rush hour into and out of the city is hectic.

The I95 portion should be done within 25-35 minutes depending on conditions.

Thanks kidyankee764! Do you know how is the area around train station? Are there apartments/rentals close to train stations in Darien so that I don't need to drive to train station.

The area you are looking in is pretty expensive primarily because of its proximity to New York and the general quality of life in the area. Greenwich is an affluent suburban town with excellent schools and a more quiet lifestyle. Darien is a similar town but is smaller in size. there maybe some apartments in these two towns (some near the train stations) but they will be expensive.
Stamford is a small city with many of things you would expect to find in a large city. there are many apartment buildings and there is convenient bus service to and from the train station so you could live in a lot of different neighborhoods in Stamford. As noted previously Bridgeport is about 20 miles from Stamford and the drive will generally take about 30 minutes without traffic. Your spouse should not have to much trouble with the drive but note that traffic in the other direction is very difficult. Stamford is a major employment center and there are a lot of people trying to get into it in the morning and out of it in the evening. Jay

There are some nice neighborhoods around Noroton Heights and Rowayton (which is actually a section of Norwalk). Rents will be really expensive in both areas, but Darien's schools perform much better than Norwalk's.

thanks everyone
thanks everyone for the response, I just wanted to share that we ended up choosing Stamford over other places. There are more frequent trains and most of them are express to Grand Central. It is little more expensive than I thought but it is more convenient.
