Default How is Ansonia???

How is Ansonia? Are the schools decent and safe. Are the taxes high? and are there many safe neighborhoods EXCEPT the hilltop area (Please name them if yes)? How is specifically the North State Street area, Fifth St. area, Wakelee Ave area, and lastly, the Griffen Hospital area? Any information given would be greatly appreciated.

Default re

I don't have a lot of info about Ansonia other than I believe it is a working class town. Not sure how well the schools are regarded in Ansonia other than the High school football program is the best in Connecticut.

Hi! I live on the North end(north main street). I've lived here almost 7 years now. I'ld say its a pretty good area if you're at my end(past north state st-going towards Seymour)I'ld stay away from North State St and Fifth St that's where you start to get into problems. My brother owned a house on N State St and sold it because it was getting really rough(guns, drugs etc...)There's a pizza place on N Main st and Forest ave if you move into that area it's more quiet and more working parents with school aged childeren. Hope this helped.

Ansonia is a small mill town with a strong industrial blue collar past. The schools are not the best with students performing siginificantly under the state averages on the Connecticut Mastery Tests and class sizes well over 20 students. That said, there has been some positive movement in the town with development and redevelopment, but it may be a long time before things change significantly. JMHO Jay

Ansonia is your average working-class town with friendly people and has long been an alternative to those priced out of Fairfield County. If you are looking for a down to earth atmosphere, Ansonia is where you want to be.

The schools do have the same problems that many of the urban schools have, but I know a few people who graduated there and wouldn't change a thing. They are both now very successful - granted they graduated 10 years ago. I would imagine things are different now. There are plenty of private schools in the area. For a better school district (but higher home prices) you could check out neighboring Seymour.

Stay away from the Olsen Drive area, but IMO areas around Wakelee Ave aren't too bad. These areas consist of working class people and many of the homes are two and three family. The worst section is the Riverside Apartments on Olsen Drive - lots of gangs and drugs - but these are slowly being removed from the city in an attempt to clean up downtown. I have a lot of faith in Ansonia and believe in 10 years, Ansonia will be the place to be.

Homes and neighborhoods on the Hilltop are pretty nice. I do know of affordable 2br condos off of Lindgren Ave - I cannot think of the name of the complex though.

Hey I live in Ansonia and I have not had any issues for the past 3 years. I find that on the main streets (near wakelee or division) these can be LOUD at times with sirens and such. Sometimes there are alot of noises outside and people blairing their music, but other than that the crime in my area is low, there are not to many sex offenders around the area in which i live (some people think this is important!) and the people of Ansonia are helpful and nice. I have found that Ansonia is a middle class town with alot of elderly population. Also I wish i knew about the schools to tell you, but I am honestly not sure about them i don't have kids ( im a college student!) But, in general I like that alot of places are easy to get to, the traffic isn't bad, and the local people who own stores are helpful and nice. Gas at BJ's is ALWAYS cheap and even at Cumby's. haha. The HILLTOP is recently built within the past decade or so, and thats the "nice" area of town where people have very nice homes. Also, they have found that certain parts of Ansonia are crime ridden, with alot of drug and gun activity.

Yes the town does have a large elderly population - very modest down to earth folks though. Many Italian, Polish and Irish immigrants from years ago but this adds to excellent food and great diversity.

Gas is ALWAYS cheaper in Ansonia than anywhere else...BJs, S&S, Cumbys and the Xtra on Wakelee I've always found to be among the cheapest in the state.

Hi Josh
I grew up in Ansonia. Met my husband there.. and my church is there. Over the course of several years.. I moved away.. but now that my hub is deceased, I am making every effort to move back there.
Ansonia.. is more like a mini-city. But it still has, and retains alot of country, friendly people. Working class mostly..

As far as the areas that you mentioned ... Wakelee Ave... Griffin Hosp.. area.. Those are fine areas.

I grew up on Elaine Drive.. near the rural part of Seymour boarder.. and my hub was from Cottage Avenue.. near the Library / downtown area. And they are all good places.

Can't wait to find a place to move to myself
