Does anyone know the requirements for becoming a substitute teacher in CT? I am in FC and trying to decide whether to do my Masters in Ed. or Health Admnistration. Someone suggested I start substitute teaching to see if I'll like teaching. Where do I get the information? I know in NYC you apply through the board of ed and they'll send you to schools in all the boroughs. In CT do I have to apply with each town's board of ed? Do I have to take the PRAXIS (sp?) exam to become a substitute teacher here. Any info regarding this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

To substitute teach I believe that you just need a batchelors degree. My cousin has a batchelors in History and has been substitute teaching in Berlin, Farmington, Plainville and Avon.

1) Only need a bachelor's degree (this is true for full teaching too, though for that it has to be in the subject you're teaching (i.e. Education for Elementary, Math for middle or high school Math, etc.).

2) Apply in each town's board of ed, though in more rural parts it is a "regional" school district comprised of many towns.

3) Only need to take Praxis to do "full" teaching.
