Chinese groceries.. go to Norwalk (New Canaan Ave) - there is 1 grocery store or go to Westchester County. There is/was a Japanese store in Riverside on Rte 1.

?Have you looked into Cos Cob, Riverside or Old Greenwich. Nice areas, easy commute in. Safe. Greenwich is diverse. Quite a few Asians live there - good public school and a private japanese school.

avoid Ridgefield. Not diverse and commute is much longer and he would have to get off in So Norwalk and change trains. I'd look at Westport over Ridgefield. Darien is not very diverse (Aryans from Darien is how Auntie Mame put it). At least Darien has a Trader Joe's!

waterlily1010 is on a distinguished road
We've just returned from a weekend in Ridgefield (too far for NYC) and Greenwich (nice). For our budget, the houses weren't great in Greenwich and quite small. Realtor wouldn't even let us see a house in Glenville as it isn't "good enough". How "rough" can that neighborhood be?

So we're going back to see Stamford (tons of nicer houses within our budget). I don't have issue with the elementary schools, I understand that they are good schools (but paled compared to Greenwich for example). Only a few last questions: are these schools safe? How does the re-districting work? Any particular school to avoid? Any particular area (zipcode) to avoid?

Thank you for your input, much appreciated!

Default Glenville is rough?

"good enough" is relative. We have friends with a lovely house in Glenville. I think Glenville covers a fairly large area so maybe there is a wide variety. The neighborhood they live in is far from "rough" ;-). There may not be anything currently worth renting there, but that is different.

Maybe you want another agent too?

My relative lives in Stamford and is using a private school after hearing from her friends down there that the schools are not great.
Though I'm not sure what they were basing those comments on...HTH

Our childless friends lived in the Hamilton Ave area and didn't have any problem. I gather from realtor that it's because he doesn't think we'll fit... He says nothing gets sold/rented out in that area?
